I am a 51 years old Swede who currently live in Thailand on a retirment visa that will be ended 19 December 2013.

The problem now is that my money is not enough for renew the retirment visa, and I was then thinking on the marriage visa (for this I have the required money at 400,000 Baht, if that is correct?)

I have lived togheter with my girlfriend for over 4 years and I was wondering how to do for get a marriage visa with her?

As you understand we are not maried at the moment but if you just give us some advice how to go on on this process we will do.

Hope someone can give me some good information about this and also explain if its difficult or just a normal procedior?

It is not a Marriage Visa. It is a 12 month extension of stay.

Quite straight forward to do if you have the correct paperwork

A Rough Guide.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Letter from your Thai Bank showing balance and up to date bank book.

OR.

If income from outside Thailand: Letter from your Embassy showing income. Now may also need proof of income as back up.

If Income from Thailand: Statements showing Income Tax receipts.

Marriage Certificate. (Kor Ror 3)

Marriage Registry entry. (Kor Ror 2)

Wife's Tabbien Baan and ID Card.

Your Passport.

Copies of everything.

Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house.

A map showing the way to your house.

Passport size photos and 1,900 Baht fee.

Take your Wife to be interviewed.

One or two witnesses may be required.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp.

Go back in a month and get the remainder.

Bengt - Suggest you don't leave it too long before you

get married, so there is a decent interval between

the happy day and visa application....immigration

can be a suspicious lot.

First you have to get married which will require that you get a document from your embassy, "affirmation of right to marry", have it translated into Thai and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Then you go to the local Amphur and do the dastardly deed. You will get a marriage certificate and a Kor Ror 22 form which you will need in addition to a letter from your bank that you have 400000 baht in your account seasoned for 2 months. The account must be in your name only. An alternative is a letter from your embassy stating that your income is at least 40000/month.

If you do not have 800000 baht in your account, but you do have a monthly pension, you could use the combination method to qualify for a retirement extension. The money in the bank + the pension must add up to 800000 baht/year. Or if the pension is at least 65000 baht/month you could use that alone.

Thank you for your answer, after this I have some more questions as

1. As you see in my start I wrote I have a retirement visa that will end 19 December 2013, when is best time to goto immigration so they not make to hard time for me?

2. How long time will it take to be married? (from goto the local amphur and in the end have the marriage certificate and kor ror 22)

3. For what time do I need to have the money (400,000 B) on my account. From the day I get married and back 2 month or from the day I goto Immigration and back 2 month?

4. If it is as I belive (2 months before I goto immigration) can I take out the money directly after I been to immigration or do I have to wait until I in fact get the marriage visa? As I understand it it will take at least one month to get the visa.

5. According to your knowledge, is it easy and normal to get the married visa or is it very difficult and demand maybe "money under the table" So you know, in my case I really live toghether with my girl friend for over 4 years and both I and her know exactly everything about each other

You are worrying too much.

The procedure is not that difficult and no one will make it difficult for you providing you have all the documents needed.

Getting married takes less than a week from the visit to the Embassy to actually being married.

Money has to be in the bank 2 months before application

You will get a Kor Ror 2 document not 22.

Dipping into the bank account before receiving the final stamp?

Personally I do but some do not.

You will not be changing anything but reason for your extension from retirement to marriage to a Thai. You can do it within the last 30 days of your current extension.

Depending upon how long it takes for affirmation of permit to marry from embassy it should not take more than a few days to get married.

You will get a Kor Ror 2 not a 22.

Money has to be in the bank 60 days before date of application for extension.

Be sure and keep a copy of the affirmation of permit to marry. Some immigration offices ask for a copy from a newlywed.

1. Up to 30 days before 19 December but two weeks or so should be enough time if extra documents are needed.

2. About 20 minutes to interview, type up information and issue marriage certificates (KR3) and ledger entry (KR2) if boss in office - will likely take several days for your Embassy document/translation/registration before this can happen however.

3. 2 months prior to extension application.

4. You are getting an extension not a visa. I would not use funds until approved but there is no regulation to prevent this - but it would be highly suspicious for a first time application or new marriage registration extension.

5. There is no reason to pay anything other than for documents/financial proof and TM.7 application fee.
