My recently purchased car Mazda, is fitted with the Nissan 2 litre turbo charged engine, the fuel consuption is around 4 kilometers per litre, the exhaust pipe is a single pipe branching off into 2 at the rear of the car, no silencer is fitted, Mr. Somchai says this is the reason for the high fuel consumtion, as there does not appear to be any fuel leaks, but a strong smell of petrol persists, the exhaust is sooty black.

Any ideas to as what the problems might be.

Thank you in anticipation.

Tom

Is this the sr20DET?

4kmpl means you definately are definately running high fuel bills, could be a faulty oxygen sensor i would check the ecu to see if youre rich as Neal said.

change the oil, new sparks, check air and fuel filter. also throw in some Redex fuel additive cleaner with the next full tank.

A friends sr20 had poor fuel economy and I found it to be the 02 sensor and clogged injectors.

Its an old Nissan X Trail 2Litre Motor then, if its Turboed. That engine never got here legit.Japan only.thumbsup.gif

Try Silvia 200 / 240 SX whistling.gif

The JDM X-Trail GT got the SR20VET engine which is basically the same as the Silvia SR20DET except it has Variable Valve Lift.

4KM/L sounds perfectly fine for a 2.0L turbo making upwards of 300PS.

How did Mazda get into the story?

A former owner of the RX8 forgot to check the oil level?

The black sootiness does indicate running rich, check spark plugs to see if they are black (wettish looking). Also while at it check the gap.

Splitting the exhaust into 2 sounds unnecessary.

So whats are the modifications done to the engine? The ECU would run fine on the original stock motor. Go and change all perishables like the air/fuel filter, plugs, oil, etc. Then take it to an aftermarket tuning shop and have them tune it on a dyno. They could probably locate the problem and tune it. But if the engine is modded, perhaps the previous owner did no tuning of the engine. the engine might need a piggyback or a standalone ecu. Try here: https://www.facebook.com/GettunedTuningService?hc_location=stream

Is there no check engine light? If the 02 sensor is bad it will run rich also. This is an old engine and consumption will increase with age. No way you can compare consumption with modern small motors. I'd be happy with 8-10 km/l in a 200 hp motor I think:)

Fuel Pressure Regulators are known to go faulty on these engines too... You can replace it with an aftermarket item for around 1000 baht if you do it yourself and you can eliminate it from your possible problem list.

Has the car aways run like this? Check injectors too... Have they been changed for bigger ones and still running the standard ECU?

Does the car come onto boost ok? Does it splutter?

Does it black smoke when you put your foot to the floor?

Assuming the motor is standard and not a "Silvia S15 blacktop" it will be making well less than 300ps, infact more around the 200ps would be the figure.

Thats a point IMHO.A Twin Turbo Supra does {did} about the same KPL.coffee1.gif .

What a load off waffle, the 3.0 TT Supra made 330hp and used about 10lt/100km, the OP is using 25lt/100km.

4 to 8 is bullshit, either it was modified or badly out of tune, my mk 5 Cortina cost me 60k and it used 30lt/100km (completely irrelevant, much like you telling about your other cars and how much they cost).
