THON BURI: -- A short-haul train encountered an accident at the Taladphu train station Saturday morning, injuring two persons.

Police and State Railway of Thailand governor Prapat Chongsanguan were at the station at 11.30am. The injured were taken to Samitivej Hospital Thonburi.

The third of four carriages of Train No. 4322 (Mahachai-Wong Wian Yai) hit the station roof. Train driver Jaru Kanchanaphan attributed the accident to the sinking of the rail track. The third carriage bounced and hit the roof.

Prapat said he would rush on tackling the problem that hurt the public train service. A number of train-related accidents have been reported this year.

He also promised that the SRT would take responsibility for the medical expenses for the injured.

Tokyo to host 2020 Olympic Games

Tokyo has been chosen by the International Olympic Committee to host the 2020 Summer Games.

In voting Saturday in Buenos Aires, the committee picked Tokyo over the two other contenders, Madrid and Istanbul.

The announcement came at 5:20 a.m. Tokyo time, but a large crowd watching on an outdoor video screen burst into cheers.

Tokyo previously hosted the Summer Games in 1964.

Abbot wins in Australia's election, becoming new PM

Tony Abbott has declared victory in Australia’s general election after defeating prime minister Kevin Rudd.

Abbott, the British-born leader of the Liberal Party-led coalition opposition has ended six years of Labor rule.

In his victory speech he said: "I can inform you that the government of Australia has changed. For just the seventh time in 60 years the government of Australia has changed. "I declare that Australia is under new management and is once again open for business.

Hajj pilgrims begin journey to Mecca

BANGKOK, 7 September 2013 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok saw off Hajj pilgrims in Narathiwat as they began their journey to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok went to Narathiwat to see off Hajj pilgrims who were traveling to Mecca. The Ministry of Transport provided flights to help the 473 Hajj pilgrims get to Saudi Arabia for the annual gathering.

The government also provided influenza vaccines for the pilgrims to be physically ready for the lifetime journey.

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam. This pillar is obligatory for every Muslim, male or female who are physically and financially able to make the Hajj once in their lifetime. Hajj is an ultimate form of worship as it involves the spirit of all the other rituals and demands of great sacrifice.

Pheu Thai still No.1: Poll

BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai Party would win the majority votes if a national election takes place now, according to the Assumption University Poll.

The poll, conducted in 17 provinces during August 30-September 7, showed that 44.6 per cent of the 2,119 respondents would vote for Pheu Thai, against 22.9 per cent favouring Democrat Party.

Australian Horse Racing Gamblers caught at Pattaya Bar

PATTAYA:--In a joint operation involving Pattaya Police and the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) Eastern Branch, a raid took place of a Pattaya Bar which was suspected of showing Australian Horse Racing and those in attendance were allowed to place bets with the Bar Owner.
