Medium Range Restaurant

Hi All,

I went for dinner at Det 5 last week, on Suk Soi 8. It was really nice - not too posh, but a nice standard. Casual, but not cheap and nasty.

Please can you recommend some similar grade of restaurants around the Sukhumvit area, preferably with a good Thai menu. Actually if it was all Thai, that would be ok too; but not really exclusively western.

Thanks in advance.

Monsoon in Sukhumvit Soi 8 does excellent western and Thai food.

For me I generally have a tenderloin steak with potato gratin. With a tenderloin it's all about the sauce and the pepper sauce is very good there. The rest of the western food is good as well.

My girlfriend says the Thai red curry with Duck is the best she's ever had and she's Thai and lived in Bangkok for a long time. They appear to have both a Thai chef and a western Chef.

When we go out for food elsewhere (i live in Hua Hin now) we compare the food to what we've had at Monsoon before and a couple of places we've been to have come close to the Monsoon level of quality.

It's not really cheap as you would expect for somewhere selling excellent quality food but it's also not priced like the restaurants in five star hotels like The Landmark or the JW Marriott for example. This place can get very busy at times, especially if you want an outside table.

Not been to Det 5 so I can't compare it, but Rosabieng on Soi 11 has pretty good Thai food at a reasonable price. Nice to sit outside and listen to the band sometimes as well.

I like Cozies on Soi 10.

It is split in half, the one before the hotel is airconditioned the one after the hotel open air and better ambience to me.

Italian food oriented but Thai too. No live music, not that big.

Only a couple of minutes walk up the Soi

Thanks guys.

So Monsoon, Rosabeing, and Cozies are all added to the short list.

I think I've been to Rosabeing before actually.

Any more suggestions?

North East Family Restaurant located on Skhumvit between the Exchange tower building and Soi 18. Good prices and excellent issan thai food. Most items less than 100thb. Thai beers 75thb and large bottles for 120thb. Nice AC restaurant.

There are a number of good places dotted around Wireless road and Soi Langsuan....many good options for lunch as well....including the small market between Wireless Rd and Soi Langsuan....the place inside has mains for around 80 Baht.

Other than that Soi Ruamrudee has a couple of options....Baan Glom Gig is pretty good for dinner.

Anyone ever eaten breakfast at Det 5?

I fancy a cooked brekky (eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, hash brown etc) which they have and the price is reasonable. Many British pubs will charge double that....just wonder if it's any good though?
