dokmai nang dam) according to my wife, but she thinks that this may be the Isaan word for it. Ours isn't in bloom yet but the leaves and stem look the same. It is used in temple offerings.

This plant is a member of the family Acanthaceae, genus Ruellia, most probably Ruellia squarrosa. Originally it came from Mexico. Its Thai name is ต้อยติ่งเทศ
