By USANEE MONGKOLPORN

THE NATION

TRUEVISIONS will pay additional compensation to around 1,000 the subscribers who exited its platinum and gold packages during January 1 to 25, after the company’s cancellation of six HBO channels on December 31, said Natee Sukonrat, chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission’s broadcasting committee.

The broadcasting committee day voted three to one to order TrueVisions to pay add-on compensation to those exiting subscribers. Then it called in TrueVisions to ask if it agreed with the conclusion.

True chief content and media officer Birathon Kasemsri na Ayudhaya said the company agreed with the panel’s resolution.

True seems to be having some serious satellite problems right now.  The signal is on/ off and scrambled  here in Nakhon Sawan Province and has been since last night.  I called and their automated answering service said that customers in certain areas cannot receive the DSTV signal due to heavy rain.  It's cloudy here but no thunderstorms or rain, but it is acting like terminal rain fade.!

Seems that you have confirmed that it's a True problem.  The last time that it happened to me it turned out to be the LNB on the antenna.  Of course when they finally showed up everything was working fine and I had to throw a "farang fit" to get them to change it but it fixed the problem.

Thanks for the info on the LNB on the antenna. They were at the house changing my old satellite box for a new one and I thought something went wrong with the PVR hook up to the box. The problems didn't start until about 10 minutes after they left, but I will look into the LNB, especially since right now, I don't have a clue what it is (but I will soon).
Thanks

The LNB (Low-Noise Block Down converter)is  the thingy mounted on the antenna that the cable is connected to. It receives the signal, amplifies it and downconverts it to  intermediate frequencies that can be transmitted over the coax cable to the set top box.

True is supposed to show up today at 1100 and it will most likely be working fine when they come but it was totally unusable yesterday and now, at 0230, it's working but I'm still getting periods of low signal which looks like the beginning stages of rain fade (it's clear with moon and stars out) or sunblock (no sun at 0230).

Before  you jump on the LNB, it could be something as simple as them not securely connecting the input coax firmly to the new unit. I would do the following:  Turn the unit off and unplug it for about 2 minutes.  Make sure that the antenna connection is tightened down securely.  Plug the unit back in and turn it on,  See what happens.

Just received a letter from True that they are going to increase the subscription fee up to 7%. First removing a lot of channels and then increase the subscription fee.

Yeah someone has to pay for the subscribers that canceled !. Unfortunately we don't have an alternative (iPTV is NO option because of Bad Internet) so we have to stick with them. :bah:

True came as advertised and replaced the LNB and also cleaned some  bamboo around the antenna.. They are the only option here and have treated me good for the past 18 years.  My boxes are on 24/7 either with TV or their music channels.

Wayned, I want to be sure that the problems I'm having are the same you had, as I did reboot etc. However, on my set, about once or twice an hour, the person on the TV show will say something, the picture will still be there, but there is no sound and you miss that part. It only lasts a few seconds or a bit more, but you lose the subject.

Also, sometimes, the screen goes grey and you miss a minute.

This all started when they gave me a new satellite box, but I kept the old remote as I'm used to it. Somehow, it isn't all synchronized. I doubt it would happen when they are there, but it continually happens. Was this similar to the problems you had?

By the way, I also have 3 connections, but pay for two. Last year, when I wanted to downgrade to gold from platinum, I was told I would have to pay for the third, even though they gave it to me via a special deal about 8 years ago.

The LNB problem will normally show up as a total loss of signal with the "no signal" message on the screen or broken/scrambled video that you sometimes get with sun outage.  The plastic cover cracks due to t5he climate and water gets into the unit. If your problem is only showing up on the new box, it's not the LNB but most likely a defective unit and you most likely will have to throw a "farang fit" to get a new one unless it goes tits up when the technician is at your home.  I'm good at throwing ":farang fits" as I have lived here over 19 years.

Wayned, thanks for the valuable info. It's not the LNB. I will hook up one of the other units and if no problem, it's the new unit. If the same problem, probably a connection.

Usually I don't have problems with technicians coming out as I tip at least Thb 100 on each visit. I learned this 20 +'years ago and they always show up. If the service is really good, I tip more. It works globally.

Again, thanks for the info.

They came today and showed me how I needed a new inline amp, so I bought a new one and they gave a new
LNB unit and new cables and it's much better.

True visions has applied an un-announced increase to  there monthly costs by 7% effective with the June billing that I just received,  I emailed them thinking that they had somehow applied the 7% VAT twice and they told me it was a network wide increase.  Everybody else get the same?

Most likely to offset the loses in subscriptions that they had when they cancelled HBO.  But that was total BS as the same movies that were rerun over and over again on the HBO channels are now being rerun on the added channels.  At lest the sports and CNN are still live!

Not really un-announced, they had sent a letter 1-2 months in advance about this. Maybe it didn't make it to your mailbox?

Probably true.  Where I live in the sticks, no mail has been making it to my mailbox over the past few months. Had mail delivered by the daily food truck yesterday and am still waiting for my 90 day report receipt that they received on the 20th of last month.

Can I just bypass 6 pages and ask if anyone can give me a price for a package that shows all premiership matches and UFC fights. Cheers in advance

True are no fools.

The Gold package used to include th6 BEIN football channels....but no more.

If you want to watch these games you now have to also subscribe to the "Football A La Carte" package. This means a big price increase. Taking the monthly rate to over 1800 baht.Previously 1300 baht

A rather big increase

An attaboy for True Visions!  I never thought that I would say this, but True Visions does have something good.  Yes, they are overpriced, they constantly show re-runs, delete channels unannounced and their TV guide, both hard copy, and on line sucks.

But I contacted them regarding sports scheduling and found out they, if you sign up, there is a weekly sports schedule released every Monday morning to your email and it is great. I just received mine for this week, 6 pages long, and it outlines all of the sports programs for the week without having to search through the other BS that they publis.  You have to contact Truevisions_care via email to sign up. https://outlook.live.com/owa/?path=/attachmentlightbox

Well True have now suspended my service.

Let me explain......In May 7th  I had changed my package and was told that a new bill would be sent....no bill arrived until July..This bill was wrong and charged for the new and old packages.

I contacted True by email and explained.I was told that a new bill would be sent. No new bill arrived.

To keep them happy I paid for the June period.

I can see that because True only generate new bills at the beginning of a month where the problem arises.

Anyhow ,yesterday I paid True another 1900 baht, this meant that I would need to need to pay a final 1900 baht by the 24th.

Last night I found the screen empty and the suspended notice displayed.

I contacted True and told them that unless the service was reconnected I would cancel my  contract with them.

No pictures an hour later,so I have now cancelled the service.

I can see that the problem has been caused by only sending revised bills at the beginning of a month, but this is their problem, not mine

I receive their sports schedule via email every Monday.  The one that came out yesterday does not have the first week's game on it so it seems that they are not.  I sent them an email asking, but they haven't responded!

Is it true that Truevisions will not show American football this year?

I am under the impression (from reading local Thai forums and FB pages) that Professional American Football (NFL) will be shown on TrueVisions on Channel 672 ( 177 as well, same as 672 - Sports Illustrated - ASN) beginning with the kick-off game Friday, Sep. 8 at 07:30. Then there will be one single 1:00 PM game (00:00), one single 4:30 PM game (03:30), SNF, MNF and TNF along with the various/sundry special games (Thanksgiving, Saturdays later in the season). It looks like there will be replays as well during the week. So we have two fewer Sunday afternoon games than last year.

NFL GamePass ($199) remains a viable option.

I've been streaming some pre-season games via Kodi (Sportsdevil) but the quality is marginal.

There are a lot of APKs, but I haven't been able to evaluate those yet.

The following networks have purchased the rights to broadcast games for the 2017-2018 year:

AFC: CBS
NFC: Fox
Sunday Night Football: NBC
Monday Night Football: ESPN
Thursday Night Football: NFL Network Amazon will stream 10 TNF games free to Amazon Prime customers in a fashion TBD.

SI/ASN have two or three channels in Asia, and SI 1 and SI 2 might have NFL, but as far as I can tell, TrueVisions only shows SI 1.
