UPDATE: Horrific details emerge on Gene Hackman's Death !
How do you know they didn't have a gardener. They were discoverd by maintenance workers, which are gardeners. One of his daughters said they kept in regular contact. I haven't spoken to my mother for 12 days. She'll be ok. Not everyone is like you. -

Anyone with experience buying house in childs (12 year old Thai national) in Chiang Mai?
Cheers for the info, Im not too worried about the selling, as would want to keep it for life, well passed when he would be 20 anyway. With regards to the usufruct , apparently a work around is to make a usufruct servitude ( giving you rights for life, or up to 30 years, to inhabit the house) before the property is moved into a minor's name, as you suggested it might be impossible or a lot harder to register them when a minor owns the property. Ill have to find a lawyer eventually , this site has been great for a lot of other things so was hoping someone had experience getting this done in Chiang Mai, just want to see its possible before I start making moves. -

Getting OaP with Super
Correct. I was working in Canberra in the 1980s. A friend from uni was working as a researcher in the policy section of social security ( I cannot remember the department's name). She was handed a research-policy paper from the Parliamentary Library or the Australian National University (I cannot remember which), and asked to check the data and analysis. Bottom line - the paper provided a 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50-year projection of Australia's population size and age distribution and its potential impact on social security payments (in then current dollars). The financial costs to social security at 50 years ahead were astronomical. The paper recommended that all workers be forced to join a super fund, and so by year 20XX the old age pension could be abolished. Etc., etc. Of course, there is the issue of the elderly who never worked in Australia, and I cannot remember how that was dealt with. Thus, the current compulsory employee superannuation idea can into being in the early 1990s. -

DTV vs Non-O
OP, you have couple of good answers above. Given that your plans in the future are still being decided on, suggest the idea of sticking with extensions from a Non O based on marriage. Low financial requirements and funds can be used to live off once extension approved. With the type of online work you are currently doing then you would not have an issue.- 1
