Story Of My Thai Citizenship Application
Hey all. I haven't posted here in a while but I just want to provide you all with an update. I had my MOI interview in Nonthaburi in August last year (2024). I was expecting a similar experience to my other interviews but it was actually pretty rough. The SB officer handling my case told me I wouldn't need to sing the national or royal anthem (as I'm married to a Thai with kids) so stupidly I didn't practice for that - because I was asked to sing. Luckily I know the national anthem anyway but I wasn't able to complete the royal anthem. The official in charge was pretty strict and criticized me for not standing up straight enough when singing and how I should have worn yellow... etc. There was something about me he didn't like. I left that day feeling pretty disappointed. Anyway, I left it a few weeks then I asked the SB officer if there was any update. He informed me that the application was sent to Bangkok MOI for signing, much to my suprise. It's been there for at least 6 months. Just so the rest of the process goes as smoothly as possible, can you let me know what to expect if I get to the oath ceremony. What should I learn for this? Congratulations to all those who have obtained citizenship already! -

Economy Experts Urge Thailand to Scrap Tiered Cigarette Tax
It is all about tobacco smuggling. As of Feb 10, 2024 for Thailand TOBACCO TAXATION AND PRICE PRICE OF MOST SOLD BRAND, PACK OF 20 CIGARETTES TAXES ON MOST SOLD BRAND (% OF RETAIL PRICE) In country currency66.00 THB Total taxes81% In US dollars1.79 USD Total excise61% https://www.tobaccocontrollaws.org/legislation/policy-fact-sheets/thailand/summary As you can see the total tax rate on tobacco in Thailand is already high. In fact the tax rate is one of the higher rates in the world and the cost of tobacco in Thailand is much higher than in two of its neighbors. Cambodia and Lao-PDR tobacco is dirt cheap, almost 1/3 the cost of Thai tobacco. This makes it profitable for smugglers. Canada had a similar problem with the USA when it had high taxes on its tobacco. The contraband tobacco flowed in from the USA, specifically North Carolina with US border authorities not caring. North Carolina was well aware that trailers of contraband tobacco cargo was heading to Canada and did nothing to stop it. it took multiple highly expensive police actions, political pressure and the threat of disrupting the border to US imports,to get action. The Canadian solution was also to adjust its tax rate to make it less lucrative for the smugglers. Lao PDR and Cambodia are allowing the tobacco to be smuggled into Thailand. Corruption at the Thai border is facilitating the contraband entry. Attack that first. This would not address the tobacco issue. Thailand's tax rate on alcohol mirrors some of its neighbors. There is a false assumption that vaping is less of a health risk and this is a false assumption. The current research shows that there are significant health risks. Much of the vape products are sourced from suppliers where there is no quality assurance. The Thai products are a mishmash of chemicals. Formaldehyde, unknown nicotine concentrations, heavy metals, carcinogens aplenty and so on. Nope. The issue is smuggling. How would you ensure quality in vape products? It is not as if the manufacturers are transparent in their declaration of ingredients. Do you know what is in the vape liquids sold in Thailand? Nope. See above. You have made the assumption that the vape liquid ingredients are subject to quality control and that the ingredients are known. They are not. How would you control and supervise the supply of vape liquids? -

Report Ladyboys Brawl on Soi Bangla: Viral Video Sparks Outrage
Just close the venues down. I think everyone has had enough of the “ ladyboys “ which name is an insult to real women. They’re not nice people. Phuket and elsewhere will regret letting them roam free on the streets where tourists with kids walk. Should they tell the tourists not to go there , continue making excuses ? They never bothered me years ago, and seemed to behave ok. Now they’re a bunch of violent thieves gone viral. Sorry to say Thailand has had a bad reputation for years, but now it’s OTT. The boys, the girls, the Trans , the rip off artists, the dangerous taxis , whole roads dedicated to in your face prostitution with the antics that they get up to in full view , it’s more than pornographic . And no, I’m not a holy Joe by any means, for me the line has been crossed. Authorities, police and the government should be ashamed of themselves. -
