Authorities considering BRN demands: Army Chief
By English News

BANGKOK, Sept 24 -- Thai authorities are still considering the 5-point demands made by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) militant group but if there was no conclusion yet, the issue should be later aired at the peace dialogue, according to Thai Army commander-in-chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha.

Gen Prayuth said that the Thai authorities have officially received the BRN demands and the agencies concerned -- including the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) -- were studying and analysing the context cautiously to determine the practicality of each point, that is whether they should be accepted and implemented or not.

The army chief would not say whether a solution had been found or not
not but he reiterated that the security agencies would decide on the
basis of national benefit as their priority.

He said there was no need to hurry in bringing the proposals to any final decision before the next round of peace dialogue with the BRN scheduled on the third week of October.

Paradorn Pattanatabut, secretary general of the National Security Council, said that the BRN demands were under the deliberation of security, civic and academic groups and it would need more time to
make any conclusion.

He said the next round of talks would touch on the BRN's demands, reducing violence in the southernmost provinces and violent attacks during the holy month of Ramadan.

Thai authorities and BRN representatives have already held three rounds of talks with Malaysia acting as facilitator. (MCOT online news)

PROTEST
Unhappy farmers, blind lottery ticket sellers demand govt help

Jeerapong Prasertpolkrung
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Two protests were held outside Government House Tuesday. Dairy farmers called for an increase in the price of raw milk, while lottery sellers with disabilities called for help to cut the overpricing of lottery tickets.

Some 600 dairy farmers, led by the president of Nong Pho Dairy Cooperatives in Ratchaburi, Somchai Damthamis, gathered at the fourth gate on Phitsanulok Road. The farmers said dairy production costs had risen and the government must approve the milk board's July 29 resolution to add Bt1.31 per kilogram to the raw milk price - lifting it to Bt19.31 per kg - from October 1.

They also called for the government to speed up compensation payments to dairy farmers affected by the 2011 flood disaster and to add 19 provinces as dairy cow raising areas.

The farmers also want the Dairy Farming Promotion Organisation have the right to provide school milk for another three years, with input from the dairy farmers' organisation.

Meanwhile, some 100 blind lottery sellers called for help to solve the problem of lottery tickets being sold for Bt90 per ticket - when their printed price is only Bt80. Retailers had increased the ticket price, they said.

The ticket sellers said if their claims weren't resolved, they would rally outside the PM's house in Lat Phrao in Bangkok.
