I'd just like to say first that I no longer post on other Thai forums- none at all. Not Ajarn (a teaching forum), not Sawasdee (a gay forum), or the "forum that must not be named."

Thai visa is the only Thai forum, to my knowledge, that maintains an acceptable level of troll control, especially in regard to protecting its gay members.

On virtually every other forum (even the gay one!) various gay posters are eventually accused of being pedophiles- not based on any evidence or knowledge, not as a serious accusation, but simply to troll them. And the administrations of these forums let those posts stand. That's in addition to all the other kinds of homophobic trolling that I'm sure the posters here must be able to imagine.

What's wrong with these people? And by this question, I'm not asking primarily about the trolls- who are simply sad and pathetic sociopaths- but the admins who allow this kind of behavior.

It's even more sad to see large numbers of regular posters on those forums do nothing and say nothing about such offensive behaviors.

Again, this is not a problem here at all. Just seeking insight from the saner folks here.

I can see why people question the need for censorship, but, unfortunately, due to some immature individuals, it is often necessary. The Forum of the Banned - By, for and about Trolls - is the best example that I have seen of why there is a major need for moderation on the Web.

Most of their so-called "posters" - the absolute dregs of the Net - spend their time doing nothing but ripping apart other forums and other mods/admin/posters who they have had run-ins with in the past - in between attacking their fellow members and their fellow trolls on their own site.

Everyone and everybody that they don't get along with is a "liar", "gay" or a "pedophile" with no evidence given or asked for. They are downright bitter, offensive, nasty and have nothing positive to say about anything and yet they actually wonder why they have been banned from here and everywhere else over and over again.

Well, because according to them i am a troll (the first troll in Thaivisa history who made into bedlam), dishonest, stalked by nasty personal snides after nearly every post i make in the news section because i do not agree with their opinion that the PAD is the group one has to support in the present political climate.

I believe here in bedlam was even a thread started that warned everyone of my imminent arrival.

I admit to being slighly obsessive/compulsive and anal retentative, and a lot of other things, but i try not to be any more dishonest as everybody else.

I think you mean flaming not trolling, flaming being the posting of offensive remarks accusations etc against individuals. Thai Visa isn't free of this and I doubt any forum ever will be.

I currently post on 2 here , mainly info /farming type stuff and "forum that must not be named" for fun, p!ss take type stuff. I was also Mod on "another forum that must not be named" .This place does offer a high degree of Moderation which to some extent will protect "minority" posters. I dont always agree with some of the moderation here, mainly with the treatment of long time posters that may have steped over the line and find themslfs banned with little or no warning and having to write things like "forum that must not be named."

Having an "unmoderated" board is very difficult ( in fact they are all moderated to a certian extent), we tried it on "another forum that must not be named" and I dont think it really worked. A lot of Admins have their own personal agendas, axes to grind and I'm sure the majority of posters relise this, some though are just easily led

1. Trolling is posting simply to get a reaction, and flaming can be used to troll. If I believed that the individuals posting really believed what they said, it would be flaming (posting a real, though extreme, accusation). I do not so believe, and thus they are trolling (they do not sincerely believe their accusation).

2. It is doubtful that any forum will ever be free either of all flaming or all trolling; however, one would think that unbridled, unjustified accusations against members of one of the worst imaginable crimes could be specifically controlled by a motivated mod team, as here. Frequent unmoderated accusations of this degree of crime are certainly a sign that a forum has little discipline and few limits on how low its discourse may sink.

3. "behaviors"- are you questioning my Americanized spelling, or my use of "s" in the plural form? Thus some nominally uncountable words may have countable forms. Usage of these forms is sometimes optional, so a few alternative correct forms may co-exist.

4. I am not presently an *English* teacher, though I have been in the dark past. Incidentally, to serve in that role, your post was refreshingly free of accurate punctuation (and in one case, capitalization).

If we would be friends, or mates, you might be perfectly permitted to make personal jokes. As we are neither, and honestly, i do not particularly like you either, you should use the same restraint i use in order to keep things civil.

You may find yourself outrageously funny, but i find your snides nothing but annoying, especially given that most of your recent activities in the threads we both are involved in are stalking me with your snides and infantile jokes, not contributing anything whatsoever.

I don't think that recently I ever trolled or otherwise was disrespectful to anyone on this forum...

but that didn't prevent me from getting banned last year. Two years previous when TV was wild west, yes I could see the benefit when a lot of us were banned collectively...the place was on fire and needed to be cooled off...probably went a long way toward a new understanding and to strenghthen TV to become the premier site for expats presently extant...
