Testing for soil suitability

Featured Replies

What soil tests are good to run to determine compatibility between orginal habitat soil, and farm soil?

Im looking to farm a species from a particular area of the jungle to another area and would like to ensure I provide as close to its original habitat as possible to ensure it makes the journey.

thank you

some basic tests that you can do yourself, I used to do when transferring plants to the botanical gardens where I used to work:

Soil acidity

Granulometry (heavy clay, sand...)

Climate (seasonal rain..?.)

shadow, half shadow, full sun?

Organic material content (colour and smell)

Nutrient content

Moisture (under water, ... arid conditions)

Even doing this I sometimes had failures, with smaller plants I would take as much soil with me as possible.

Thank you Cooked!

You have given me an excellent list to get started researching.

The words Jungle and farm make bad bedfellows. Normally due to the fauna (flying), humidity, rainfall, sunlight, loss percentage....

As long as it's not Brazil nuts, good luck.

Only I can pollinate Brazil flowers.

Bzzz.
