It takes a very High IQ to go native.

on the basis that intellect is judged by the way that a person can adapt then this man seems to be extremely adaptive.

could someone also explain to me why the Thai Visa police are on his case together with the other negative posters.

What has He done to incur such malice?

Is there some thing that they know that I dont about this seemingly inoffensive eccentric?

Live and let live

  • I've seen a documentary about this guy. I wonder if he needs a work permit? If I owned 47 rai, it would be for me to say money is not important. He can sell some it anytime he wants.

Martin Wheeler is now a film actor. His first movie, Poo Bao Tai Ban, an Isaan indy film, is premiering in Bangkok on 19 June. I hope fame will not distract him from the sufficiency lifestyle. See trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmeO-6a7RXo

Anybody knows if he got citizenship and if his son is got out of problems... ?

he is a nice guy, even if I do not totally agree with his ideas and the education he gave to his kids...

Sounds a dreadful half life of burden and toil. The sheer mind numbing boredom of this kind of lifestyle would depress me.

Good Lord!

A thespian working for less than scale.

This guy's propaganda value to the Thai government, which lives in constant fear of rural social unrest, is incalculable. How can you peasants be unhappy with your lot in life when a foreign white man is so satisfied living the same life? This may help explain why they turn a blind eye to possible land and labor violations. I admire the man, and suspect that he has learned lessons about humble, simple, and spiritual living which most of us can only begin to imagine.

There are ferangs who beg on You Tube living like that too. Plastic Farmers, plenty about here..If they ran a Bar and did any work here they would soon get Immigration calling.
