its well documented by me regarding the number of electrical items that i have binned or had repaired the last 3yrs.

well the latest one is a chest freezer [panasonic sf-pc697],after 5 weeks the power light has failed but the compressor light is ok.

so we phone one of the service no's in the manual 500bht.just to come out.cause you didnt buy it here no said the wf.you told me to go elswhere you dont sell them.then rang another no.no one answered,so wf.phoned customer services bkk.someone will contact you, well they did phone while the wf.was out i told them phone her mobile 3days later no response.

now the wf.has stopped being the nice person and phones head office this time.we get a call they are on the way.

now comes the best parts 2hrs later they turned up they had got lost poor guys never thought to use their mobile phone to ask where we lived.

on arrival they looked at the freezer and took out the plug and said it will take a long time to get the part, thats ok.said the wf.but its 3parts full of food what do we do with that, ummm 2million bht.question they couldnt answer, well i had the answer get on the phone order the part then come back and fit it,but we need the part so we can claim the cost back.

well here's a copy of the warranty now do you want us to phone head office or what.

off they go see you sometime.

is it no wonder we get annoyed,so lets see how long this mamoth task takes. and i want to buy a bread-maker best to employ a baker.

Panasonic. I am always nervous when I buy one of their produces. Seems to be popular here but in the States they seem to be going down hill as far as quality. As I see them, another great company like RCA, degrading themselves out of the market. MHO of course.

Why do you need a freezer for your meat?

On the sidewalk just out front of the hotel I'm staying in, the lady has had the same three chickens in the glass case since Sunday.

After six years of the same experiences, all kidding aside, I have concluded the problem is a combination of using lesser quality parts and/or labor for items made/being sent to Thailand, and dirty electric.

on a serious note, I always fix all the electric myself unless it's a big and costly job. Hell, I probably won't even bother with burnt out power light...

The only warranty issue I had in Thai was with my HP laptop battery, I brought it in myself, they looked at it, ordered new battery and told me to come back a few days later. went back and exchanged the old batt for a new one.

Good luck with your freezer.

Gave up ever trying to find anything that doesnt fail or fall apart here and "service" is almost impossible.

Having said that nothing and I mean absolutely nothing Samsung has ever failed to date, tv, fridge, freezer, washing machine, air con, phones, tablet, laptop etc, all going strong.

Sympathy to the OP can be very frustrating getting any kind of back -up "service" , once they take the money thats it usually. They promise the earth, but once paid, thats it! Everything from that point on is just too much trouble, and every excuse under the sun why they "cant" do it, basically its because there is no profit in it just hassle.

I never rely on any warranty now, I always assume that if it goes wrong I am om my own and anything more is a bonus.

I also don't repair something that isn't critical for the function.

You repair a dead light and get it back with 3 other problems and forgotten screws.

We have used Samsung's home appliance service a few times and they have always been good (not warranty issues). They do charge for the home visit but so does every other service company anywhere in the world (or they build it into the labour rate). The big problem in Thailand is spare parts. No companies seem to think they need to carry spare parts, and that applies to cars, appliances or in my case industrial diesel engines. When the defrost heater element failed in our Samsung fridge they were there to repair it with a day or so but "sorry must order spare parts" checked with their 0ffice , 6 weeks wait!

As for a failed power light, I would just ignore it, not worth the aggravation to have it fixed even if it is warranty.

The OP's handle says it all so i guess he is storing whole pigs or such like. Can't imagine why else he would want to store such large volumes of meat unless his Mrs is cooking for and feeding the whole local Monk brigade at the Temple, or is running a Restaurant ?

.it is always convenient to be able to not have to run around every day for food especially in the rainy season, why i did buy a freezer was that i found a supplier for good quality beef[pon-yang-kham] co-op and has 10 to 15,000bht worth delivered so having one is a must, not to mention pork, duck, chicken, lamb, then there's the pies, sausages, bacon, make my own burgers,i buy cheese in 2kilo blocks so i and my beloved [dog] and wf.never go without.

Thanks for that. What about the rest of it?

The CIA would have a tough time deciphering that post.

Three coffee makers

Three DVD players

One desktop computer

Two floor fans

One doorbell

Four sets of outdoor lights

One hot water maker

One stovetop burner

And just recently one a/c starting to vibrate and make noise despite its quarterly checkups

All kaput in three years. The d@mned coffee makers had eggshell thin glass coffee pots and two of them simply cracked with mild and careful use. And guess what? No replacement carafes here. I started out buying top of the line "quality" household appliances. But they seem to break as quickly as everything else. Nowadays, I only buy the cheapest brand available, because I knoow I'll need to replace within 16 months anyway. Thailand = hub of cheap electrical junk manufacturers--and the most poorly built and maintained electricity supply this side of Equitorial Guinea.

Well, you know me by now ... the number of issues I've had with the number of poorly constructed electrical appliances bought here over the past 3 years. Some have been repairable, but many I've had to bin (throw away) ... what a waste.

My latest purchase, is a chest freezer a Panasonic sf-pc697

19e11355bf20195d2cfd6d8a483b510f.jpeg

On the bottom left of the photo above you can see 2 indicator lights ... after 5 weeks the power light has failed but the compressor light is ok.

So we phone one of the service no's in the manual ... 500bht just to come out.

The reason given was because you didn't buy it from our company.

No, correct, I didn't buy it from you as the wife told me you didn't sell this product.

In typical Thai fashion (well, my experience to date) no-one returns calls ... it always seems to be my problem and not theirs ... no-one seems to care about customer service ... dry.png

Enough is enough, stop dealing with the local shop ... The wife, well, she's stopped being the nice person and phones head office this time.

Finally progress ... we get a call ... they are on the way ... clap2.gif

Now comes the best part.

(Probably) two hours after the agree time to the head office repairmen turn up ... reason for their tardiness ... they had got lost. Poor guys never thought to use their mobile phone to ask where we lived ... facepalm.gif

On arrival they looked at the freezer and took out the plug and said it will take a long time to get the part. That's ok, said the wife, but consider this ... the Freezer is 3/4 full of food what, pray tell, do we do with the frozen food?

Ummm ... 2million Baht question. Of course, it's a rhetorical question and one they couldn't answer.

Well I had the answer ... get on the phone order the part then come back and fit it ... it's not rocket science you know ... huh.png

The repairman replies ... but we need the part so we can claim the cost back.

Anticipating this ... well here's a copy of the warranty.

And adding a small veiled threat ... now do you want us to phone head office or what?

Result ... off they go, see you sometime.

Pfft ... is it no wonder we get annoyed. What should be a simple repair turns into a mammoth task ... so lets see how long this takes.

Ha ... and I want to buy a bread-maker .. maybe just simpler to just employ a baker !

I don't know if I was even close ... yet.

How many times did I read the OP? ... well, once actually.

I used to have to write speeches for others from their notes as part of my job,

so I have a dispensation to try and understand others.

Like most members, if you give them a chance ... their OK.

Mind you, snake24 does my head in ... no chance there ... facepalm.gif

The only place to buy beer in our village bought an off brand dispaly cooler from the shop in the parking lot of Macro in Nakhon Sawan. A few days after she bought it she asked me to show her how to set the temperature higher because the beer was freezing and the bottles breaking. The electronic control panel had the temp display, a "set" button, an "up" button, a "down" button and an "on/off" button. I assumed that to set the temp you pressed and held the set button and varied the temp with the up/down buttons. So I pressed the set button and the temp display changed to -1 degree, there's the problem! I tried to vary the temp by pressing the up/down buttons but it didn't change. I tried to turn it off and then back on but the on/off button did nothing. I finally thought that the box was smarter than me and went and searched the internet for instructions. What I had done was correct so I went and tried again with the same result.

I unscrewed the box from the unit and found that nothing was hooked up other than power to the unit and the thermostat, not even the on /off switch.

I offered to load it into my truck and take it back to where she bought it about 100 kilos away. She said "mai pen rai" and has now fixed the problem herself. She just unplugs the unit at night! The beer is really cold in the late afternoon - Chang or Leo is the only selection!

Thais will throw things away that don't work rather than take it back or somewhere and have a 70 baht switch replaced. I can't count the number of rice cookers that I've repaired because of the switch.

The power supply voltage in Thailand varies over a wide margin, I think due to inadequate cable sizes and transformers. So when load is light voltage goes high and the opposite when load is high. This happening occasionally is not a problem but it seems to happen here several times a day so eventually the power supplies or motors can't take it anymore and fail. Up country is probably worse.

I have a Ups system on all the important electronics such as TV, DVD, satellite box and that keeps them safe. Just add up the wattage for each appliance to work out what size you need, must be watts rating for the ups size, not the ups va rating. A reasonable set up can be covered by a 500 watt ups for about 3000 baht.

Have a big 4 baskets on top, freezer from Panasonic, look same as picture but at least 3 time longer, no problem. have 2 x air con units, never use air con myself, but visitors feel hot. but they work if needed, get them serviced and re gassed every 3 years yes Panasonic.... have 2 DVD players, both work fine and around 14 or so years old.... 19 q Fridge Panasonic, about 4 years ago needed a repair, very cheap was a small hole in metal, welded and re-gassed.. have 2 x Panasonic floor fans, 10 years on every day still work fine, I clean and oil the bearings every 3 months.. have a very fine but old 42" Plasma never a problem.

Bought a new side by side about 5 years ago from Samsung, repaired 4 times, 2 weeks ago stopped working again !! repair part would have cost 9,000 baht.. got 750 baht from the recycle place.. so a total waste of 36,000 baht......... Bought a big Toshiba, 36.000 baht, we shall see, but looking on electric costs, the Samsung cost 3,400 baht to run per years, this new even bigger Toshiba costs 1,100 per year...... at same time bought a new Toshiba Microwave 33 lt, have a 11 year old Panasonic 32 lt, has been repaired twice, but is old so popped it upstairs in storage as a spare just in-case needed

So in my case Panasonic is long lasting, again for me other brands even well known makes, fail within a few months..

The other good idea is find someone that repairs things, often they have laying around a used part that can be fitted within hours, or know were to go to get a working part.... of course some thing like in the Samsung case, the compress is the thing that always fails, [he speaks perfect English their 2 daughters are married and live in the USA, he said Samsung is one of the worst brand for items failing] so would have had to buy new, but he could have got one and fitted within 3 days..

we also have quite a few panasonic items that we havnt had any problem with its just when you need a repair and finding someone you can trust.

we have already had one repair lot told us they had fitted a new motor to a kitchen appliance, but they didnt bet on my wf.marking the old one,so they got caught out charged 1600bht.we contacted the manufactor and told them, that was a waste of time.what gets my goat up is head office knew what was needed, customer services also yet they turned up with f.all.

Three thoughts here:

First thought:

Why is merchandise purchased in Thailand of such poor quality?

Good brand name items, Sanyo, Toshiba, Sony, and many others, all have inferior merrchandise in Thailand.

An expat friend of mine says to buy three of anything you need and maybe one will work, if not combining parts from all three to get one to work!

The same expat friend of mine is convinced that good companies from other countries send merchandise that will not pass their quality control specifications to Thailand since it is known that the majority of Thai people will never return a defective item!

That leads me to my next thought:

The op is very lucky to have a Thai wife who will actually complain and try to get a faulty item fixed or replaced. My wife, like most Thais won't!

Something to do with losing face..Don't the merchants lose face by selling crap???

Don't the customers lose face by putting up with it??

Final thought:

Meatboy, is it that difficult to type an entire word rather than make up your own weak abreviations?

<deleted>? Wife is only two more letters than wf!

It makes your posts very difficult to read.

Go that extra mile, type that extra letter!

Make your post better than Thai quality!

Thank you!
