Married To A Thai Gal

Featured Replies

Just got married a month ago, went to the ampur office and registared the marriage and got two certificates ( in Thai). We have had the marriage cert translated but is there another document required? I've heard there is (forgot the name of it), but we went back to the Ampur office to ask and they said there isn't. Can anybody fill me in on this mysterious other document...if there is one?

Cheers

Sounds like the verification of the you are "free to Marry" chitty..ie bit of paper usually signed by some bod in your Embassy confirming or at least certifing that you are single/divorced and havnt got another little wifie stashed away somewhere..

If on the other hand you have a legally certified and registered Government marriage certificate from the Ampur/registry office..(not the village type bells and whistles chanting ceremony)then you are legal...and usually applies worldwide.... :o and would imagine even applies to Helens place.

Sorry..just noticed you said OZ....was thinking of the offshore island just next to it.... :o

Yes have already filled in the stat dec at the OZ embassy and registared the marriage at the Ampur. Was just wondering if there is a document like a marriage license or something that goes with the marriage certs.

I believe that the only two documents you require are the stat dec from the Embassy signed by you and a marriage certificate - duly translated by a reconised entity with all the stamps on it to make it legit. (marriage cert and marriage license should be the same thing, legally)

Be prepared for a grilling, however, by the Embassy when/if you are thinking of applying for any Australian-related status for your wife.

Congrats, by the way, on being a married man.

Yes there is.

Its called copy of marriage registration which they provide together with the two certificates.

If you did the registration in an Amphur not familiar with Farang/Thai marriage,it might be that they are not aware about this second document.

Me again.

The document is called "KHOR.ROR.2"

I hope this will help.

As far as the UK tax authorities are concerned, the translation of the marriage certificate (2 copies, one for you and one for her) that you already have is sufficient.
