In this day and age, many people have considerable amounts of free time. To fly half way around the world takes one day each leg of the trip which cuts into vacation time. 60 days is much more reasonable. I am semi retired and like to go to places that make things easy. Getting an extension while possible, just adds more things to do and takes time. If one uses a visa office to make the run to Jomtien immigration as I have done in the past to get an extension, requires a person to give them your passport. sorry, but being overseas I want my passport in my hands at all time. In addition, if trying to rent a place, say for 60 days or 90 days, the office wants to see those valid visa dates in the passport. having just the 30 day visa exempt can make renting for a discount a problem
