GrantSmith
Get it right the 100 baht is domestic not international. Go back and read the article again... The increase is 100 baht... Domestic goes from 100 to 200... International 700 to 800... Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
kruangfaifar
Thailand just becomes a bigger and bigger ripoff of everyone who comes here. The greed that governs this country is gone wild. Speak for yourself. I pay so much less income tax here than I would be paying if I received the same salary in UK so I am not going whine about 100 baht extra tax at the airport. Perhaps you would prefer it if VAT was increased instead
Popular Post BangkokGastronaut
So much negativity from some people; as if you're living in some hell-hole. You're not. You've probably just been here too long and now complaining in the same way that you complained about the country you came from. Looking out the window it's a lovely day in Bangkok; and I'm going to enjoy it.
indyuk
The arguments presented on this topic miss the point. The Thai government are preparing the Thai Budget for 2014 as most government in the west are right now. The Thai budget needs to be fixed by sometime in November. The government must be having an extremely difficult time trying to come up with a plausible budget for 2014. This will be due to the failed elements of the 2013 budget like for example the 200 billion loss on the rice pledging scheme. The failure of 160,000 purchase contracts drawn up against the Tax rebate scheme for first time car buyers. The Thai government must be looking at every possible source of low cost or no cost revenue in a quest to come through the budgeting process with a smile on their faces. Whether it is fair, or perhaps scurrilous for the Thai government to try and squeeze more free money into the economy only you the consumers can judge. However so far it looks as though you'll be giving their strategy a firm hands down. The fact is the majority of the Thai people wanted a socialist government and now they have it. We shall all have to foot the bill of socialism in Thailand, In fact the Thai people and foreigners are already sharing the cost.. kiwiinasia
So they are taking yet more money from the pockets of travellers. Whats new here? Maybe they should try "Visit Amazing Thailand Year 27", that bound to bring in a few million more to pay the fees.

dunque
The PSC in the UK ranges from £13 to £188 depending on distance and class of travel so 800bt seems quite a bargain. But the UK is not competing with Thailand for visitors; Thailand is competing with countries like Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines and now Myanmar. I think that the point being made was that, for example, the UK APD is charged on all outgoing flights, similarly in other tourist-producing countries, so 600 baht is irrelevant

Yeah its gone up a whole 100 Baht where will it end The level of sarcasm and understanding by some Thai Visa contributors is as poor as ever! It may only be B100 increase per person Mr Tafia...but with a predicted increase of 13.5 million travelers using AOT in the coming year, it certainly does not add up to 'peanuts'. Why bother making a comment at all if you've nothing sensible to add.
Angeledge777
Taxes kills every industries. That's happenning in the West right now and going to happen here if they keeps being so greedy. Thais can't afford a living anymore if they earn under 40 000 BAHT a month and foreigners are struggling as well with all these new taxes, fees and corruption which we are targets. "Rippoff" Bull sh** !! Are you going to tell the world that you, overfed Westerner, can not afford that increase? Come on! How much is that 100Baht, in real terms, as a fraction of your annual income? How many times do you use the airports every year? How much do you blow on booze, coffees etc., and think nothing of it? etc etc ??!! And similar Westerners complain about services and/or piddling increases, as though you want expect everything for nothing.

WAERTH
The "funny" thing is that earlier this year AOT posted record profits over the year 2012. But the UK is not competing with Thailand for visitors; Thailand is competing with countries like Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines and now Myanmar. Yeah, but in Thailand the majority of visitors get a visa waiver whereas in Vietnam its $45, Cambodia $20, Laos $30ish, Myanmar $40 with only the Phillipines being free. All of those countries also charge PSCs and departure taxes so I think its unreasonable to say that Thailand is ripping people off. The country is developing, look at all the construction and new shopping malls. There isn't a country out there who doesn't see the costs of services increasing with that kind of progress happening. I run a travel company, and the 500 baht is harmful as it is packaged illogically, however I see no problem with the increase in the fees. What does bother me is when they come into effect... Too many times they introduce it next week or at the start of the next month when companies have quoted travel programs for months in advance. Please give us some lead time guys... These poor destitute farangs, they not only complain about nickel-dime increases in prices, but then they would equate it with the Thai government's boundless greed and proof that all Thais -- the entire nation -- is lacking in basic human principles... The big question -- what does such an attitude say about the mentality and basic reasoning power of so many TVers who stalk this forum looking for any opportunity to attack this "poor, backward, uncivilised country" that someone force them at gun point to visit or live in. Good luck with that demented logic, but such arguments won't win any meaningful debate.

hawker9000
I learned very early in life not to worry or concern myself with things I have no control over, lends itself to a stress free existence.Back in the 30's, I wonder how many Germans came to roughly the same conclusion. It IS a fine rationalization for apathy, isn't it? 4Get a life mate, piss poor comparison. If you can't differentiate between lifes problems you will lead a stressful life.Mai pen rai khrap, Turn on a few of those piss-soaked brain cells, mate. 'Was pointing out that the can't-do-much-about-it-so-not-worth-expressing-an-opinion mentality contributes to problems rather than solves them, and is just a rationalization. If you think free speech leads to a "stressful life" , then you're part of the problem as well, not to mention going through life with your eyes closed and unable to benefit anything from the mistakes of your predecessors. Govt reaching like this richly deserves opposition. I can't argue that it will stop a significant number of tourists in the short run, but do think it's part of a big picture that is beginning to have longer run impact. Now people without lives DO often have a tough time with some of these big-picture concepts.
