Is an Accord worth double the price of a Civic or a City? Sure it is, but I'm sure some will produce their Excel spreadsheet with a detailed analysis showing the contrary. Mentioning a Honda and a BMW in the same breath is ludicrous. Selecting a car is personal, subjective and even emotional;buy what makes you happy.

I drive an E60 525iSE and love it. Going to trade for the new 3, 4 or 5 soon though. Just cannot beat the ride or handling of the 5 series. The Accord is fwd and suffers from horrendous understeer as it is a medium to large size car. Says it all really. I drove Camrys and Accords before buying the bimmer and none of them aroused any passion in me whatsoever. It was like performing a function such as going to the bathroom.

The styling of the German marques is still light years ahead of the Japanese models too. 20 year old Audis and bimmers still look better than modern Japanese or Korean cars IMO.

I agree on many points, but certainly not on the styling. I seems to me that BMW has hired the designer of Ssangyong, these 3GT, 5GT and 6GT are just horrible.

The 5er has (IMHO) a very conservative (i.e. unimaginative) styling, nothing to get excited about. OK, neither the Accord, but the new model is finally a bit less quirky than the previous models. The Jazz on the other hand has an excellent styling, light years ahead of BMW.

But whether or not the BMW is worth twice the price of an Accord, depends in my view on what is important to you. Styling, comfort, reliability, good service, handling, cost (purchase and maintenance), fun to drive....

I am kind of ill placed to advise on cars, because for my the most important thing is the engine and the power (remember: only more than enough is enough!), followed by handling. But the again, sometimes I am so fed up with these 20 inch rims and the vulnerability of the tires on Thailand's street, I wish I had a simple and reliable Accord. (But I don't).

(I don't have a BMW either.)

At my home parking lot there is an Audi A1, BMW 1er M sport (F20) and many many many Jazz.

1. Audi A1, looks great, modern, i love it.

2. 1 Series, looks good, front is not it´s best bit, the sport package improves the look a lot. Nice interior too.

3. Jazz, looks ok, but dull and dated, inside and outside. Facelift didn´t change that much.

The A1 is my favourite compact right now.

Well the new GT models aren´t the greatest milestones in BMW desgin history. It´s the stupid idea of the car manufactures to "invent" new car classes which noone needs.

BMW had it´s best times with the older E stylings, E30, E34, E39 (best 5series ever) E36/7, E38 - they set the foundation for my love to BMW.

The current 5 Series is not very exciting that´s true, but it won´t lose it´s elegance as the desgin is quite timeless and ages well. It´s precursor (E60) was either love or hate desgin.

I think the whole package of the 5 Series does it make a great car and a keeper for a long time, so it´s not "stupid" to invest some bucks more. IMHO

Going back to the original post, the original poster never said he was a serious buyer! So we have 3 pages of yak yak for nothing other than his amusement.

Make that 3 pages of mainly interesting comments and one completely useless remark !...

Who cares if the Op was a serious buyer - a few months back I went through the very same debate in my head, as I'm sure have others - this has been an interesting topic, amused Op or not !

Our kid gives a pretty decent review of the 2013 Accord.

In his opinion doesn't even come close to the BMW 3-series, let alone the 5.

Still gets a reasonable 3.5 out of 5 overall mark from Motor Torque.

It doesn't even get close to the Teana IMHO, but after reading a comment saying the Accord is worth 2x a Civic, I kinda give up :)

Haven't driven the Teana, the looks of those Nissans put me off.

How can they build such good looking cars like the 350z, Skyline R34 and the GT-R yet fail in the low and mid-market segments?

It is not worth it because luxury cars are always overpriced especially here. But if you can afford such vehicle, who cares about money. If you like it then go ahead and buy it. Money is for spending.

The old J31 and J32 Teana's weren't much to look at outside, but the new J33 has improved exterior looks a lot IMHO and still holds the title of the best Jap to drive (by far) in the segment, IMHO. I still prefer the J32's interior though ;)

Simple.... If you drive.... Get the series 3 diesel for which the price I not far off the Accord - factor in fuel savings over many years , and ur close to the price of the Accord

If you sit in the back a lot, then god for the accord as has more space

Hi all,

enjoying the busy topic - the 3 series might be a good option, waiting for the proposal (including trade in offer) from BMW Nelson Chonburi (btw owning Honda Accord 2.0/2009)

Cheers Mr.J

Agreed, the interior of the latest Teana is not impressive at all.. Previous model was better..

Generally speaking the locals (at least the uninsured ones) give you a little more margin on the roads with the 5 series.

You also meet a far greater quantity of trashy loose women with the bimmer. I think that might be one for either the plus or minus column.

Who drives around looking for women off the street? LOL

If you can buy a 5-Series without it feeling like the biggest purchase of your life, chances are most women you know or meet have already figured out you have money wink.png

After a couple times around the track, it's pretty much mostly women one doesn't know yet.
