Mossfinn
"Some Songs were written with Thailand in Mind!" And some with Thai farang in mind. You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht Your hat strategically dipped below one eye Your scarf it was apricot You had one eye on the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner They'd be your partner, and... You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't You? You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive Well you said that we made such a pretty pair And that you would never leave But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee Clouds in my coffee, and... I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee Clouds in my coffee, and... Well I hear you went up to Saratoga and your horse naturally won Then you flew your lear jet up to Nova Scotia To see the total eclipse of the sun Well you're where you should be all the time And when you're not you're with Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend Wife of a close friend, and... ....and was the song about Mick Jagger or Warren Beatty?? Still up for grabs, some say David Geffen.............

alanrchase
Pink Floyd covers it all. Money. Wish You Were Here. Comfortably Numb. What Do You Want From Me. On The Run. Brain Damage. Run Like Hell. Hey You. A Great Day For Freedom. Sorrow. Coming Back To Life. Time. Etc, etc. All cover various situations in Thailand beautifully. David48
I really enjoyed listening to that selection ... A lot of stuff I hadn't heard for ages and quiet a few new (to me) songs ... this one comes to mind ... http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/678770-some-songs-were-written-with-thailand-in-mind/page-6#entry7658646 Patsy, nice little local number in there ... I actually met the Pogues and knew them fairly well as I was working the Bar where they used to play at the Pub on Gray's Inn Road in London back in the mid 80's. Fantastic fun guys, but I'd hate to be their Liver now ... boy, did they drink ...

arizonamike74
A local Arizona band, the Refreshments, wrote this song, Mekong. It's based on the lead singer Roger Clyne's surfing vacation in Thailand when he was in his 20s: The story, according to Clyne, goes like this: With their guitars on their backs, a few weeks of summer yawning out in front of them, and just $300 between them, Mike and Roger made their way to Thailand to "experience the culture." They promptly blew through their money, but found they could make pocket change by teaching guitar lessons. And that is how they survived for the next several weeks. Of the things they uncovered during that spiritually - and otherwise - awakening sojourn was a unique rice whiskey which, says Clyne, could take the white right off your teeth. The drink was called mekong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCm-FSPy0bA
