flexible flight ticket to attend my wife's delivery (she's in the south, I'm in Bkk)

Hello,

The birth of our son is expected next month.

I work in Bangkok and she has returned to her hometown in the south of Thailand. She will give birth in Hat Yai.

I want to fly there and try to be there on time.

I was thinking about buying a flexible ticket but I don't know how it works, I always fly with economy tickets.

Is it possible to buy a flexible ticket or whatever the airlines call it, for a random departure date and as soon as I know the date of my wife's delivery (perhaps a day before) change the date to the right one?

I suggest buying a flexible THAI ticket dated after you want to travel. If you read the policy for each ticket you will see which ones are free. You can allways shift to earlier but you may have to pay much more as a low cost ticket sold in advance may not be available closer to flight date.

Thai Airways has only 4 daily flights to Hat Yai.

Nok Air and Air Asia have 8-9 daily flights to Hat Yai and they also have the flexible option.

Maybe Thai is less prone to flight cancellation but shouldn't I choose the airline with the most daily flights?

The one that is less prone to flight cancellations and is most likely to have a lower percentage of prebooked seats.

Thai airways would seem to fit that bill. Thay have flights available at short notice when I checked for today as did NOK.

I would not bother prebooking just do it on the day.

But of course if you want to save money you can chance a booking on AirAsia. And pay through the nose when they do not have that seat bracket available when you want to fly.

You also have to consider which will be most affected by the tourist season next month when you want to fly.

Booking online with Thai air last time was much cheaper than booking in person. Remember even if you book a flexible ticket theres always a chance the flight is full thus bad luck for you. Can't you just plan when you want to be there and book for that date?

Is the birth not going to be a C-Section?

Surprised if it's not.

What ever day it will be ... it won't be a Wednesday ... sure 100%

Really? My daughter was delivered by C-section on a Wednesday, as were several other babies that day in the same hospital.

Do you think they close the maternity wards on Wednesdays?

Did your Daughter get delivered in Thailand?

Do you get your hair-cut on Wednesdays also?

Before you rant reply ... ask around a bit ... you might be surprised ... w00t.gif

Welcome to Thailand? You don't even live here!!

Of course she was delivered in Thailand, wouldn't be relevant otherwise.

Wednesday is divided into day and night according to Thai astrology. The color for those born on Wednesdays is green. The Morning is for Receiving.

This image shows Buddha holding an alms bowl. The Buddha visited his family after four years in the monastery. His father was not content when he saw the Buddha begged for food holding an alms bowl. Buddha explained to his father that performing pindabat, or holding an alms bow are the lineage of Buddha. Thus, the disciples can devote their food. The virtue of giving amongst Buddhists is strong until today.[

[The person born on Wednesday morning is polite, artistic and emotional. He is most likely working creatively. Wednesday night is their lucky time and the lucky color is green.

Easy to see some TV members are not born on Wednesday.

I does seem that I owe you an apology.

You joined the Forum in 2004 ... yet I saw only 100 posts to your name and made a wrong assumption that you were modestly new here.

What does surprise me though is that you don't seem to acknowledge that Wednesday is considered unlucky for a number of things ... haircuts for one thing.

Babies born on a Wednesday are not favoured ... Wednesday night even worse.

Saturdays are considered auspicious.

Everyone's mileage and experiences differ ... my apology stands.

What area do you live?
