Is it possible to just stop a passing taxi and ask them to take me to Pattaya? Someone mentioned 900 baht on an earlier thread, hotel says 1200, tout says 1300. Is is best to stop a passing taxi or prebook?

I've gone from BKK to Pattaya several times for 800 baht, but I paid the tolls. Depends on where you start in BKK, but if you are not stuck in traffic, it is around 800 to 900 baht with the meter on.

Often when a BKK taxi arrives in Pattaya, the touts will approach the driver and ask if he wants a return fare back to BKK. The driver will receive 500 baht and the taxi stand coordinator gets 300 for arranging the deal. I have witnessed this first hand.

So many BKK drivers are happy to take passengers to Pattaya since they will normally receive a minimum of 1,300 baht, round trip :)

I'll be starting from Nana. So would you suggest i stop a meter taxi and pay tolls? How much are the tolls?

From Nana, it's hard to get a taxi to take you 10 blocks for less than 200 baht! Possible but it may take you a number of slammed doors ...

Yes you can stop a taxi but I have never heard of one less than 1200 - 1500 baht and be sure to specify 'highway' and they pay the tolls. Except you can return from PTY for 800 as other poster stated and those 'stands' are all over the town. I have gotten some pretty scary drivers, beat up taxis and some "OK" as well using that method. You do have to pay the deposit in advance (usually the 300 baht), just get a receipt if you do.

I like to use a private service personally. 1200 baht flat, all tolls, always newer private cars, drivers always have been great and best is the door-to-door pick up and drop off at time you specify. Call or SMS Khun King at +668-4003-6063 (dispatcher/coordinator). Pay cash to driver.

NOTE: I have no financial gain or benefit from this service. I have used them for over 5 years and have referred many other satisfied travellers. (Use them for the airport, too, at 700 baht).

Its a shame we don't have a "shared taxi" option on TV for popular journeys like this so we could all save a few Baht on renting vans or whatever.

Just a thought....

that's a great idea. I also thought of a sticky/pin matrix of taxi fares so people don't keep asking the same question

Not sure if this still happens, but in the past the police were known to stop Bangkok taxis obviously heading out of Pattaya with a passenger. They're not licensed to pick up passengers in Pattaya for any destination. Unsure what the implications would be for the passenger. I suppose the taxi driver could pay an instant "fine" and continue on his way.

I understand that there are places in Pattaya where this sort of things can be arranged, including near the Phra Tamnak branch of Bangkok Bank, but local transport providers are obviously not thrilled at the loss of business, so whether or not it goes unnoticed depends on who's profiting from it.

A taxi offered me $700 the other day inclusive of tolls and I took it with $100 tip extra for good driving and conversation. I've paid as much as $1200 but I also prefer booking a private limo for $1000-$1200.

I dropped a friend at airport today and for the first time riding a buss service for $149.

I went with these in the end and it was good thanks. 1200 baht, we had the usual debate about tolls being included or not, agreed eventually that 1200 included tolls. God loves a tryer apparently.

Each time I have done this, I have let the Hotel (reception) or the Security in the Condo I stayed at, organize it for me.

Both ways.

I just asked them, and they provided transportation within a short time.

The prices were the same as already mentioned here.

Most taxi will not be making a real profit at 900 baht as Pattaya will not allow them to pick up a return pax unless they are a part of the mafia. Most, on the street, will want about 1200 baht for that run if they have to return empty. Yes you may get cheaper but it is likely to be a mistake for the driver taking you.

Time of day will matter a lot, and how much traffic they've got to sit in on the way down. If it's off peak and plenty of taxis around, expect to pay around 1000 baht (plus tolls) from central BKK. Add another 200-500 baht if it's tighter.

Is the sister "resort" on Beach Rd Soi 13? "Resort" might be pushing it, but not a bad hotel.

I used a limo to get to Pattaya a couple of weeks ago. Rang and booked them. They came down from Pattaya and picked me up at 7am, for 1300 baht including tolls.

When you say 'Limo' what sort of vehicle are you referring to?

I think it was a Camry. Leather seats. Lots of space.

OK, not quite a limousine, but a HUGE step up from a Bangkok taxi.

No the hotel is tucked up in the hills. Near cabbages and condoms ?

Guess if you google it youd be better to look.

Nice and quiet , big pool . And maybe 10 minutes to walking street by taxi.
