New McCharthyism Sweeping the USA and the World?: What examples have you seen?
You are using the Israel Falau case as an example of impugning free speech and again, I offer that you misunderstand the core issues. Mr. Falau had agreed to a code of conduct. Included in the code of conduct was to not make incendiary comments about people so long as he was paid by his Rugby team and was benefiting from sponsorship money. Rugby Australia's failure was to not have explicitly included every scenario in its code of conduct that Mr.Falau had signed. Nevertheless he was found to have committed a high-level breach of Rugby Australia’s code of conduct for posting religiously-inspired, anti-gay comments on social media. He was warned not to do it and that there would be consequences. Mr. Falau who was raised as a mormon, became a pentecostal, which is a fundamentalist faction, that includes such associated sects where followers speak in tongues or pray and handle snakes. He is also an ordained pentacostal minister. Mr. Falau in one of his sermons blamed the catastrophic Australian bushfires on Australians lack of morality, and that Australians needed to “repent” for their sins. Was it really necessary to blame the innocent victims of the fires? Former Wallabies player Dan Palmer summed it up succinctly, The religious freedom angle in the Folau controversy was a red herring. Israel was free and is free to say whatever he likes. He didn’t lose any fundamental rights for doing so - he lost his job, as any of us would if we break contractual obligations. Mr Falau raised $2 million+ from fundamentalist christians to bring an unjust dismissal case. An out of court settlement was reached saving Rugby Australia millions in legal fees. -

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
You are the one who said, and I quote, yet again, "Forget about Article 19." Do you deny posting these words? YOU saw the words "pensions and annuities paid to a resident of one of the contracting states shall be taxable only in that state" and declared that Australian expats didn't have to pay any tax Thailand because of the DTA. I requested you to comment on the words, "Subject to the provisions of Article 19" and you declined. See the words " Government Service" in Article 19? Government Service IS NOT an aged pension from Centerlink. Do you get it now???? You can't "Forget about Article 19" because Article 19 directly relates to the function of Article 18. Here's Article 18. Article 18 Pensions and annuities 1. Subject to the provisions of Article 19, pensions and annuities paid to a resident of one of the Contracting States shall be taxable only in that State. 2. The term "annuity" means a stated sum payable periodically at stated times during life or during a specified or ascertainable period of time under an obligation to make the payments in return for adequate and full consideration in money or money's worth. Here's Article 19. Article 19 Government service 1. Remuneration (other than a pension) paid by one of the Contracting States or a political subdivision of that State or a local authority of that State to any individual in respect of services rendered in the discharge of governmental functions shall be taxable only in that State. However, such remuneration shall be taxable only in the other Contracting State if the services are rendered in that other State and the recipient is a resident of that other State who: (a) is a citizen or national of that other State; or (b) did not become a resident of that other State solely for the purpose of performing the services. 2. Any pension paid to an individual in respect of services rendered in the discharge of governmental functions to one of the Contracting States or a political subdivision of that State or a local authority of that State shall be taxable only in that State. Such pension shall, however, be taxable only in the other Contracting State if the recipient is a resident of, and a citizen or national of, that other State. 3. The provisions of paragraphs 1 and 2 shall not apply to remuneration or a pension in respect of services rendered in connection with any trade or business carried on by one of the Contracting States or a political subdivision of one of the States or a local authority of one of the States. In such a case, the provisions of Article 15, 16 or 18, as the case may be shall apply. Watch between 16 minutes and 20 minutes. Civil Service pensions exempt. NO exemption for the aged pension. What's funny is, in the Australia forum you say Article 19 means no tax to be paid in Thailand, but on this forum you have said Article 19 means tax has to be paid. Simply put, your "interpretations" are inaccurate and misleading, and unreliable. In other words, useless. -

On Poor People & Rushing
Also, quickly snatching at things because they have been trained in the past to see it being taken away. Or, eating very quickly because the food might not be there tomorrow. Grabbing and hoarding groceries because someone else may get them. Aggressive Walmart shoppers with huge carts full or groceries when the food stamps arrive once a month (common in the USA to buy everything the first few days and go on a binge, then run out before the end of the month). People with more have not had that experience of lack so they don't see it disappearing. -

Abc’s Muir needs to make a public apology
Trump was right crime statistics were up! Just when you thought it was bad enough of the blatant deception by abc Professor Turley writes an opinion article. The Justice Department’s released survey found that, under the Biden administration, there has been a significant increase in crime. Violent crime was up 37 percent from 2020 to 2023, rape is up 42 percent, robbery is up 63 percent and stranger violence is up 61 percent. Other reports had shown startling increases such as a doubling of carjackings in D.C. in 2023. https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/4879842-false-claims-harris-trump-debate/ -

Visa Overstay Leads to Arrest of Maldivian East Coast Gang
Anyone with any experience in law enforcement has known enough of criminals to pick up on cues based on their behavior. Since they didn't describe it in detail you don't know one way or the other, do you? Anything is possible. But I agree that it is possible they were tipped off. -

Trump Vows to Make Overtime Pay Tax-Free: ‘Finally Catch a Break’
“blueprint for tax evasion“ In what way? Are you concerned there won’t be enough tax money for the freeloading illegal aliens for their Obama/Biden/Harris phones, free meals, hotel vouchers, free medical and last but not least rechargeable visa debit cards to buy all those lottery tickets. -
