success in using a Yagi antenna to improve cell phone reception in remote area

I recently bought a Yagi antenna for a friend who lives in a fairly remote area, and thought that since others may be interested in how I went about getting the antenna and adapters, I’d do a post here. I had read that Yagi antennas can be used to improve cell phone reception, so did a Google search for any for sale in Thailand. I found quite a few people selling them, but when I sent emails to ask if the antenna listed could be used to improve cell phone reception, only 2 answered. As I continued to send emails with further questions, only one seller continued to answer. That was a person named Sutee Tunpao at a company called thai3Gsolutions. (The link for the Yagi antenna with this company is here - http://www.thai3gsolutions.com/product2/yagi-antenna-16e-14e/ I bought the 14E style Yagi antenna with a 15 meter cable for 1,100 baht). One of my questions for Sutee was how to set up the antenna to link to a cell phone. I had already found an adapter that uses Velcro to attach to the cell phone at amazon.com (link here - http://www.amazon.com/Wilson-359914-External-Antenna-Adapter/dp/B0018MZ80G/ref=pd_cp_cps_0) and was thinking I’d have to buy an additional adapter to connect the yagi cord to the cell phone adapter made by Wilson, and then Sutee informed me that he had that adapter available (called an fmc-f to tnc-f adapter, which he sold for 150 baht). I bought the Yagi antenna and the 150 baht adapter from thai3Gsolutions using the Thai Pay-at-Post system, so that I could make sure I was getting what I had ordered before paying for it. Everything was correct. My friend set up the antenna on his roof, pointing at the nearest 1-2-Call cell phone tower, attached the adapters, and then velcroed the Wilson adapter to the top of his phone, and his cell phone reception went up to the highest reading.
