This one is maybe the 3rd or 4th article about sexual assault on a child that I have read in maybe two weeks. Makes me truly curious what is wrong with a man who cannot find satisfaction in having sex with a mature woman instead he is into kids. What is wrong with people.

I can't read this forum very often. it is shocking and depressing. I am so surprised to see stories published here when people have not yet been convicted of anything but their name and photo are published. I think there are no sensible laws in Thailand about the media being responsible. If this guy is guilty it is good that he was caught but shouldn't his crime be shown true before his information is released? This forum is just as bad because the owner puts these stories here. I think the owner of this forum does not believe in karma because doing this will give him very bad karma. Maybe he will be accused of some awful crime when really innocent but his picture will be published and his name will be be destroyed yet he didn't do anything. It is sad to see that few people here care about what is fair. People here just decide he's guilty without really knowing anything. It seems that very many people at this forum are very unhappy and like to see bad things happen to other people. Why is that?

I think you may have mis-read the original post. This is a 13 year old child - It doesn't matter if she's Filipina, Thai, Cambodian, American or any other nationality, she has the right to a childhood and no-one has the right to take that away - whether or not you feel she 'gave her consent' which she is too young to freely give anyway.

I think that you will find his input to the topic was that loud shouts for lynching and castration will inevitably arise even though the man has not yet been tried or found guilty of anything.

THere are of course other difficulties even after such a pedophile has been found guilty, which is to ascertain whether he is insane or not, whether he acted under compulsion or not, whether we would want to equate this scenario with the rape of a 13 year old by a stranger where the victim did not give implied consent (I take it that we can assume from the reported facts that in this case there was implied consent), whether we would want to equate the severity of such this scenario with someone who rapes a 9 year old or a 5 year old or even younger.

If you think that it is worse when a much younger person is raped than when a 13 year old was involved sexually with a pedophile, then that should be apparent in the sentence for such a proven perpetrator as opposed to the sentence where a much younger person was the victim. Used to be some big banners up here in Pattaya, paid for by USA: "Do the crime here, do time back home" was the message. Seems if I were some sort of criminal I would breathe a sigh of relief. Thai or US prison: no brainer. I don't think the perp came here as part of Thailand's "quality tourist" push.... In US prisons child abusers are known as "short eyes" and are often isolated from general prison population. Other prisoners want to kill the perverts. So they do have some standards of decency.

Forrest Wayne, currently detained at Phuket Immigration, was unaware that a warrant for his arrest had been issued until police arrived.

PHUKET: The American arrested in Phuket for the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in Harris County, Texas, was due to fly home on Wednesday.

“I came here for a vacation,” 41-year-old Forrest Wayne told the Phuket Gazette today from his holding cell at Phuket Immigration (map here).

Mr Wayne entered Thailand on November 1, three days prior to the warrant for the fitness instructor’s arrest being issued by the Harris County Court.

Mr Wayne told the Gazette that up until the point of being arrested, he planned on catching his pre-booked return flight.

“Well, I planned to, but it didn’t happen,” he said.

In a public statement issued last Wednesday, the Houston Police said that Mr Wayne befriended the 13-year-old female victim in July while he was working as a fitness instructor.

“He used text messages and phone calls to start a relationship with the girl. That relationship led to Wayne engaging in multiple sexual encounters with the victim at a hotel,” the statement read (story here).

When the Gazette visited Mr Wayne this afternoon, he was waiting for US Embassy officials to arrive from Bangkok.

“Are you here for me?” he asked. “Do you know when the US Embassy will be here?”

Phuket Immigration Superintendent Sunchai Chokkajaykij replied, “The US Embassy has contacted me. They said they are looking to send someone to pick you up.”

“Today?” asked Mr Wayne.

“Sorry, we do not know. They are making preparations,” Col Sunchai said.

Mr Wayne acknowledged he was aware of the charge against him: “Yes, I do [understand].”

However, he declined to comment any further than: “I was accused.”

“Please leave me alone. I just want to go home,” Mr Wayne said.

Asked if he would like the Gazette to pass on any message to the US Embassy, he replied, “Come and get me. I want to go home.”
