Popular Post koratesanguy
For long time I read bad things that many farangs write about us here. you making complaints about everything and telling us what we should be do. we not like and thinking it is wrong for doing. many farangs have come to Thailand and marry and make children is happy and good for doing and they accept our culture and ways living life in thai style. Is correct that there is problem with govement with many things, and is exactly same way with govements in other countrys farangs coming from before Thailand. thai people do not say to your govements what to do or making insults to you all the same ways that many you say about us. I knowing many farngs are good people who help thai in villages all over Thailand and make our country there home , but I also knowing that there being many farangs who coming here to live and enjoying all that is good about Thailand but they complain about everything because they not understanding our culture. and they not happy about anything that is why they all times complaining. We most thai people are not being rich and have everything that farangs having easily, but we trying all times to be good supporting our familys, we are sorry when we reading and hearing farangs saying we not have intelligent more like farangs having. that is wrong and should not continue for make insults to thais.

Showbags
I think he sounds very Thai. So OP...take a look around, open your eyes and see if what you see is all ok? How many people killed on the roads here? Why most people never wear helmets on bikes? Why a thai family on a bike, the rider will wear a helmet, but carrying a child without? Why do I see little kids climbing over the front seat of cars with no seat belt as dad flogs down the road at 100kph ++? Why do you vote in leadership that rapes and pillages your country? Why is your police force considered an embarrassment? Why is the red bull heir not in jail? That'll do for now lets see how you go with them first.

Brevity
I also put in my vote for a this being phony Thai post. I think its a farang troller.., ...but I'll still point out that there's a 99.999% chance that a Thai language forum exists where all the ideas that Thai children are taught at home and in school about how awful farang are and how perfect Thai people are exists, and what is said is a lot worse. My Thai isn't very good yet, but I know people who have been here a long time and they have told me that many bad things are said about farang among the Thai people. They can often hear the insults and childish comments when at the market, etc.

Briggsy
There is need to differentiate between valid criticism (e.g. "that is of low standard" because it is of low standard; "that practice is dangerous" because that practice has a far higher accident and fatality rate) and rude and insulting comments (e.g. Asians are untermenschen)
kandi
"but they complain about everything because they not understanding our culture." So I don't understand Thai culture when I just find it wrong when people helping traffic victims are sometimes accused of causing the accident? Or when there're Thais who try to extort ridiculous amounts of money from foreigners whenever they can? Or when I have to pay twice the price only because - just like you - some Thais automatically assume I'm rich because I come from a western country? Popular Post PaullyW
OP, First, thank you for your English language post as a Thai person. Many of us 'farangs' are taught to question everything in the world around us. So, we are very critical people. It means we do not just accept things like Thai people accept things. For Thai people, if they see a person driving on a bike without a helmet, they think it is Thai culture. For 'farangs', we think it is unsafe and irresponsible. We don't care so much about culture. Thai people usually have the goal to have harmony. No conflict. Peaceful. This Thai culture is beautiful, but it has a price. The price is that many Thai people cannot think clearly about Action & Consequence. So, many falangs like me, we complain about it. However, even though we complain, it does not mean we don't love many things about Thailand. I have Thai family who I love. But I still think many things that Thais do are dumb. Also, most falangs will complain just as much or more about farang countries.
Popular Post animatic
Yes, there are cultural differences, but this should not be a nationalist pride issue. I knew several Thais who have great fluidity in several languages, but that doesn't mean the majority do. Same for my fellow Americans, far from All are bilingual or fluent if they are. As to logical thought processes: If nationalism is used as am excuse to think illogically, that is not a valid excuse. 'It is not our way, and you are insulting us by pointing it out', is the slow steady route to never progressing as a culture. You can savor your past and culture and still THINK in a logical way, and take ideas from other cultures without it being a cultural insult. American English is a perfect case in point. It has words in common use from dozens of other languages and cultures. It doesn't diminish American culture to add things from others. You can find many expat foreigners her who in general love the Thai culture, but absolutely HATE, ' some' of the things here. Just as they very, very likely ALSO hate with a passion many of the things back in their home, or other's cultures. So it could be suggested that you are being overly sensitive to griping by people who naturally gripe no matter where or when they are. And some are not the nicest not brightest bulbs in their own cultures.... I would also venture you have not visited any of the other lands or cultures you accuse members of as being cruel to your nationalistic outlook on Thailand, it might be quite enlightening to see how the other half lives and see how well YOU would get on in another, to you, illogical culture. I've lived in several sections of USA and lived in Europe and Asia, so I think I see these things pretty clearly. Experience is the best teacher, and staying in your own patch never teaches you anything different than what you know, nor why others might verbally mark the differences. So if you want to get angry with me, fine. I have learned from Thai culture, but some things, mill never get a happy thumbs up from me, many because I see them hurting the average Thai person, not because they affect me so much. As to double standards, they exist world wide. You Thais as a culture, have glaring double standards you apply to others and yourselves and many gleefully insult others to their face in Thai thinking we don't understand the slang... We get this often, but, are you ok with that? Farang Baa, but not always...
thailauren
This is an interesting thread. An opportunity for most foreigners to blow their smoke by the looks of it. But the OP being a Thai would obviously have the views of a Thai. So for us "Farangs" i suppose we should think in that way when replying or posting. The Red bull issue by the looks of it has been just swept under the carpet already. Remember what the locals don't want to lose the most.... pun implied.
