I think they are both to blame. I don't know why the woman confronted them. If you ask me that's not very Thai either. They are clearly kids late teens maybe 20 ish. Also, according to Bangkok Post, as the confrontation heated up, she told them, in English, to 'shut the f- up'. Thai culture? Yes, the tourists should be more respectful and quieter on public trasport - they act like excited 14 year old kids - but that's no excuse to berate them. I bet she doesn't tell Thai high school kids to stop laughing and stop speaking loudly on BTS - and many Thai students are like that. She seems to have a chip on her shoulder - maybe she doesn't like farang tourists in general and this was her chance to say so. Who knows - but this is not a big deal - Thai media, however, are making it one.
