Why do some ( ? many ) expats start a new family with Thai wives?

I have met plenty of old farangs that have children, the thai wife is secure and knows that said sad farang will continue to be the ATM

even after she starts sleeping her with village boy friend, they(ATM) tell me they can't leave her because of the kids.

SAD.

Did you meet them enjoying a beer by any chance? perhaps on their way to the Majestic breakfast or Memorial tea room? a family life with benefits, life is what they make it......not always as 'sad' as you may assume

Before the social welfare nanny materialistic PC women are not just mothers development of Western societies, which can see is producing truly wonderful social conditions, families were large. High infant mortality rates coupled with peoples desire to have plenty of children to look after them when they themselves are old.

Now the West has dwindling birth rates and ageing population demographics.

Asia, Africa, Middle East all still value larger families. Thais see children as the flower of marriage and not producing children would be considered strange. Most other Asian girls I know, Chinese and Pinay's think the same. They all want a nice faithful husband, nice children and a nice home.

Disagree with you Lemoncake. Often, regardless of ethnicity, women have a strong desire to have children from their present partner/husband, which also helps to secure a marriage. Suggest you study a bit about human nature, how it evolved and desire to populate the World, which is not only restricted to human beings by the way. Where have you both been hiding all your life?

I do not think it is a simple to answer question.

But in my life I have found that men I knew were coming from a reason & logic

mindset & were not the ones to feel a need to reproduce.

Women coming more from a heart & emotional mindset seemed

imprinted with an inherent need to nest, create family etc.

Of course they also have a biological clock that is quickly winding down

so do not have the option of waiting till later years to decide as men do.

So I have seen many friends basically understand/agree with their wives for that reason.

Of course a mans first thought is usually logical & he worries about costs to raise

future responsibilities etc etc etc.

A woman just has the need & feels love is all the child needs & she has much to give.

The answer lay somewhere in the middle.

So many men myself included had kids early on due to their wife's need & also many men want children too of course.

I will also say that while I originally was apprehensive & fought it once I

was a father many things were taught to me through the experience of raising children.

Things I could not have learned any other way

I guess for you the experience is not to be & that is fine too.

Free will is the greatest thing about life. Probably the simplest answer to your

We all know by now that prostitution is illegal. So the issue of abortion being illegal is not an issue. Many older farangs who have never been married (often selfish types) think that they marry a slave. In my wifes hometown in Issan many women want to marry a farang simply because they think that the foreigners are rich LOL. It amazes me what kind of losers some of this women will marry strictly for the money/support, just like in many other countries. A girl from a poor landless family has really only one way to go and that is UP. Many farangs lose a house in Thailand, but the same applies in the US. To find a wife like my Thai woman would be almost impossible in the West. I told my wife in the beginning that "Thai tradition and farang money" does not work with me. Get to know the traditions in Thailand before getting married here.

Both my GF and I are in our early 40s and both have children from previous marriages. We were told 2 years ago from a specialist doctor at a private hospital here, that the chances of us ever having children together was very unlikely (due to a operation my GF went through at that time).

Now she is 8 month pregnant and although, we were very surprised, we are both happy and look forward to the baby coming. So that is why, we are having a child together :-) Was not essential or planned, but now on the way...

Now that is another thing I don't understand. If the farang was marrying a western woman, it would generally be accepted that she should have a job, yet in Thailand it seems that the wife is expecting to live off her husband's money, and not go out to work, and the men go along with that. It wouldn't be like that in an ordinary Thai to Thai marriage. My SIL works really hard and has 2 children ( which lived with her mother so she could go to work ). Why are farang men so willing to allow their Thai wives to not work?

Anyway, live together over 12 years now with a Thai woman.

After 8 months of deliberating we in agreement decided to raise the abandoned child of her brother.

Took her in when she was 11 months young, mother dumped the father 3 months after baby was born, father left crying his lungs out.

We are nearing 24 months down the road and this was the best decision I made sofar in my life.

I am happy she is learning so many Un-Thai things....

Making babies should be forbidden by law, so should marrying be, but who am I to impose this to human kind?

The men in their 60's talking about what they'd do to the school teacher for cutting their son's hair if they were 30 years younger. Or the special forces type etc etc etc ad nauseum.

These people will in all likelihood be dead before their children finish high school...why do they do this??? To feel good? But with no thought of the long term consequences of their progeny?

No doubt it could be an advantage to be light skinned in the cities...but in the up country villages where a lot of these men end up? The kids are neither Thai nor farang (in the villagers eyes).

Bordering on child abuse and a curse as seen from western eyes.

My brother is in the Philippines at 61 with an 18 month old. He will be the grandfather picking up the kid from primary school. poor kid.

Don't get me wrong....heaps of money and a hot wife.....but the poor kid comment remains.

My wife and I made the decision (she's 48 and still fertile) that we wouldn't have kids of our own so I got the snip. We enjoy all of our grand kids Thai and Western and each other.

Uh, this thread is about old farangs that have CHILDREN with new Thai wives. It's not about girlfriends, whether they have children already or not.

Come to that, if said old farangs had married another western woman after their divorce, would they expect to have more children with them?

Of course, it wouldn't happen, as the only western women that would marry them would already be in menopause .
