This is turning into the "Stoner's" Thread... :o

Cool, who are we stoning and why? :D

to be gentle...'puff the magic dragon lived by the sea...'

on the cruel pavements of NYC...'when that spike goes in my vein you know things just aren't the same...'

(fckin' spoon won't stay still...where's the cotton?...)

Who was it said: "A Fit, A Fit, My Kingdom for a Fit"?

Or maybe that was "Horse"? :o

V1:

I'm sittin alone, Saturday night, watching the Late Late Show.

A bottle of wine, some cigarettes, I got no place to go.

Well, I saw your other man today; he was wearing my brand new shoes,

And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

V2:

Well, I met my old friend Bob today from up in Bowling Green;

He had the prettiest little gal that I'd ever seen.

But I couldn't hide my tears at all, cause she looked just like you,

And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

CHORUS:

Now everybody tells me there's other ways to get high.

They don't seem to understand I'm too far gone to try.

Now these lonely memories, they're all I can't lose,

And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

[Verse solo, fiddle/steel]

V3:

[first line spoken, not sung]

Well my dog died just yesterday and left me all alone.

The finance company dropped by today and repossessed my home.

That's just a drop in the bucket compared to losing you,

And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

Got the Down to Seeds and Stems again Blues.

sum dumb 16th century playwright was a junkie...

maybe Christopher Marlow?...all kinds of stuff has been said about him...(homosexual drug addict that died ina bar room brawl...?)

How about some James Joyce to get your English reading up to speed?

Nothing like a good session with "Ulysses" or "Portrait of an Artist As a Young Man" to test your comprehension? :o

Do you have time to read anything outside TV Tippy ? ...... (probably asked in the last 5 pages, but I don't have time to read them! :D )....... :o

I make it a point to read all your posts, dear sis. :D:D

Actually, due to my strong interest I read a lot of "fringe" material of a philosophical nature. I highly doubt any of it will ever make it on any best sellers list. :D "Conversations With God" by Neale Donald Walsch, for instance. Very misleading title since the natural implication is that it's about religion. Not at all. I'd class it along with Richard Bach's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" and "Illusions." The concepts are all grounded in the same ideology. All in all, probably boring, dry and seemingly pointless to most. Oh, well. :D

I enjoyed it, but find it difficult to believe that "Adolf Hitler is in heaven", which is what "God" claims in Conversations.

Ever heard the expresion, "The devil is a liar"? I think that he is who we are talking with here. :D

"illusions" was one of my favourite books but a "Bridge accross Forever" was better. my latest foray into literature was "memoirs of a Geisha" - kept me up all night

That's the problem with "Conversations . . ." and similar material. Unless you're willing to understand the totality of the ideology there will certainly be parts of it that in isolation will appear totally off the wall. While much of the material resonates within people many can't get past those 'alarming' types of revelatory statements and they will give cause to then pass it all off as rubbish. This type of material challenges some of people's most ingrained beliefs. Not for the faint hearted since it gives rise to much deep questioning.

If you like "Illusions" I'd suggest "The Education of Oversoul Seven" by Jane Roberts. Equally profound and extremely humourous. It's become a trilogy with the addition of "The Further Education of Oversoul Seven" and "Oversoul Seven and the Museum of Time."

I just saw the movie, "Memoirs of a Geisha." Excellent movie. Zhang Ziyi is absolutely stunning.

I bought the movie in Samui and obviously doesn't work but it will. Hopefully...

On the contrary, most of what "God" says in Conversations, seemed quite believable to me.

However, the Hitler claim set off alarm bells.

I am not a Christian, but I was raised as one, and when I was a child I always thought a lot about being careful of the Devil's lies and tricks.

I'm not so sure that Conversations with God isn't one of them. :o

Didn't mean to imply that you ended up passing it all off as crap, UG. Sorry. :D

I think that anyone who pursues this type of material will ultimately come to understand that good and evil don't exist. The devil is symbolic and doesn't exist in the terms that most believe. Nor does heaven and hel_l. Which explains why Hiltler, or any other "abominable" personage, is in "heaven." The source of the material is "good," though.

Conversations with God was God awful. My new age chirstian mother got me to read the first book and I found nothing worth repeating even in my head, all alone, on a dark night. Crap.

It's been years since I read it but I remember thinking "What a bunch of new age crystal rubbing crap." Way too touchy feely ,awwwww, is that sweet.

Might be time for a re-read now that you're older and wiser. Well, let's just keep it at older. :D:D

No, I remember enough to know it contains nothing I need nor want.

That's the beauty of books . . . everytime you re-read one you get something different out of it. :o

I understand what you are saying. I agree each time is different, however, I have better books to read and for some books, no matter how different, once is enough.

Anything by James Rollins, or Michael Crichton. Love Techno thrillers - granted don't have heaps of time to read them, but when I do they are immensely enjoyable. :o

I enjoy this dave eggers guy.

I understand the concept, but I can't conceive that scumbags like Leonard Lake and Charles Ng -who tortured, raped and killed women while videotaping them in a torture chamber - were anything but EVIL! :D

There's much too much I could say here. I'd be turning this into another Tippaporn's Philosophical Korner. :D Try reading some Jane Roberts - Seth Speaks - The Nature of Personal Reality - The Nature of the Psyche: Its Human Expression - The Individual and the Nature of Mass Events - The "Unknown" Reality, Volumes I & II - Dreams, "Evolution," and Value Fulfillment, Volumes I & II - The Magical Approach. In short, it takes effort and a sincere desire to want to know. It takes time to reconstruct the picture of reality; especially when the present picture is based on so many fallicies that most are so unwilling to let go of, even to the point of dying for them.

... Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas was wacked, but great, as is Hunter Thompson in general...
as was Hunter Thompson ...

Your right though, some say he started the whole genre of pulp fiction, even though he actually didn't write that much.

His star vehicle was his essay for Rolling Stone on the Hel 's Angels MC and his drug fueled Gonzo series, (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Campaign Trail),

Like Hemmingway, it was only appropriate that he blow his head off, :o
