Your hunch is as good as mine but if he really hopes for the police to start shooting on protesters that is truly evil. I am not saying it is not his plan as i don't know but I do know if it is its evil.

He most likely does not want the police to actually fire on protestors; however, some news coverage showing protestors with bloody faces would garner support for him, keep the opposition in the streets. News coverage showing his supporters ganging up on a cop and beating him senseless hurts his cause. I don't know if he is evil, but I think he is not stupid.

This is just Thai politics, winner take all, no compromises.

A small group of people (security detail to be more precise) beats up a policeman, who was then ordered to stop by suthep once he had knowledge of the fact, leads you to assume all yellow shirts including suthep are thugs....

It is most unfortunate that most Thais do not have the responsibility that a democracy requires; the police engage in crime and don't police unless someone is on their back, politicians have grand construction schemes suitable for skimming money, but cannot provide clean water and protesters destroy buildings and harm onlookers while rallying for a dictatorship.
