Malaysia still better value than Thailand for medical?

When I compared complete price (consultation, tests, procedures) or even individually PEN and KUL were cheaper than BKK. This was comparing apples with apples (i.e. private top hospitals in each nation).

Is this still the same? I am thinking that it is better value to fly Air Asia to Penang to see three specialists than doing the same in Bangkok. OK, should compare PEN to CNX and BKK to KUL.

Sorry, I can't comment on the cost of care in Malaysia. but I can share that costs in Thailand have gone up considerably in the past few years.

Greeting,

I paid 5,450 bhat for a cortisone injection into my left shoulder for subacromial impingement at BNH Hospital! In my opinion, that's very expensive!

Having buyer's remorse, before I stepped on the plane to Penang I checked Bangkok Hospital for price of a CT angiogram. Firstly, on the holiday (and maybe always) there were significant language obstacles.

"What is the price for a CT angiogram?"

'For what?'

"Lungs"

'One moment please... A CT of chest is THB15, 270'

"How much is a CT angiogram, the multi-slice image of heart only."

'One moment please... THB25,000' (USD811)

Once in Penang I called Lao Guan Lye Specialists Hospital. Staff told me price is what worked out to USD483.

So, one can fly to Penang on Air Asia, enjoy the vastly superior food, have almost no language problems , deal with people whose brains seem to be wired very similarly to Caucasians, maybe even enjoy some entertainment and shopping too - and still save money. Go for multiple checkups, tests and procedures and it is a bargain.

Thai governmental leaders and economists, are you listening? You lost me as a customer for nightlife ten years ago. And for medical five years ago.

I agree with what you say......Thailand cost is going out of control, not only for medical but also the general cost of living.

Uhm...hate to comment on this one, because I also work part time at BKK hospital. Btw for imaging study, if you don't want to pay farang price, prachchuen imaging center is a good candidate for you. They have many branches throughout Thailand. I also work there and at the moment of this writing, I'm in my office. I can assure you that there is no farang price. You pay the same rate thai people without any form of insurrance pay.

How about for Dental procedures? I'm planning to have some dental work done in Thailand around March.

I'm not a dentist but for small dental procedures such as tooth or plaque removal, dental filling or orthodontic anchorage, any street dental clinics will give a very reasonable price, probably 5 times cheaper than what you pay for in usa or australia.

Unless you want extreme quality where you are ensured to get big money in law suit, then you'll need to go to Bumrungraj or bangkok hospital.

uhm..I've seen the advertisement at Bangkok-pattaya hospital. I've once talked to a dentist at my hospital and she said those endosteal implants by themselves are very expensive. But the price for fixing them in your bone might be cheaper in Thailand but it dedends on the health of bones and gingival tissue which dental implant will be fixated on. I guess I'll ask them for you when I go there on next Sunday.

i'm soon due for my next one and will report how much i paid.

sadly prachachuen imaging center only provides radiographic studies such as CT MRI US and bone density. Different branches have different imaging modalities available but all provide MRI study.

For dental implant, it'll mostly depends on the brand name of the implants. At bangkok pattaya hospital, a Straumann would cost about 72,000 bahts that includes doctors fee and everything. The cheapest brand they have here is imported from Korea and costs about 55000 bahts.

The cheapest place that provide dental implant service is here. They will charge only 49000 baht for a straumann and that price already includes everything. But you'll have to contact the doctor yourself. The web page states that due to extremely low price of surgery, you might be asked to give an interview which the doctor will use it as an advertisement.
