exotic birds eaten by thais

Featured Replies

I have on occasion seen some long legged birds with small bodies being sold in thai markets cooked.

I am not sure what these birds are called they were about 120 baht which seemed rather expensive for the size of the bird.

Are these birds farm raised?

Has anyone eaten them?

perhaps there are other sorts of exotic birds eaten by Thais, something besides the ordinary chicken duck or quail that could be lucrative to farm.

They are called white breasted waterhens.

Does anyone have any info on raising them?

Yes, that is the bird.

I am wondering if it may be feasible to farm raise them?

I'm not sure if Thais raise them or just catch them wild, heard they taste very good.

They're a species of rail. I expect they catch them wild. Shame.

Not the sort of bird that would be easy to keep in captivity.
