can I bring my thai boyfriend to australia so I can give birth to our baby here in 6 month :s

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone

Just looking for some advice from people who might have been in a similar situation as I am in now...

Im an australian woman with a thai boyfriend.

i have been back and forth from thailand maybe 10 times in the past 3 years and just got back from 5 months there.

I am now 3 months pregnant with our baby and would really like to have the baby in my home country but only if he can be here.

i was wondering what type of visa he should apply for and does it make any difference that we are having a baby?

we only need him to be able to come for 1 month or 2 months and then we will return to thailand.

we are planning on getting married one day but would it be a lot easier if we do that very soon before he applies??

he works full time but gets cash in hand for his job will this also be a problem if it looks like he hasnt been working and that I havnt been working for a while now because i have been there :s

he is just getting a passport now, so i was also wondering how long the application process usually take? the baby is due start of june.

scary stuff all of this,

thanks in advance for any advice it is much apriciated.

Tourist visa for short term, partner visa long term.

Firstly, it's not scarey, relax, your pregnant!

You have heaps of time for a tourist visa, partner visa can take 9 months, and also cost alot more. This may be the best option once your married. He will be able to work here, get medicare, and travel freely between here and Thailand, that's if you guys plan on either living in Aus, or doing alot of trips. Use the visa wizard on the DIAC website to find out what visa suits you best, cost, and what he and you will need.

Congratulations!

Can earning cash in hand be an issue in Thailand?

Possibly, but probably not.

You sponsoring him is the way to go.

My wife has been numerous times on tourist, a fiancee and now lives here on a partner visa. I don't remember them asking for her bank balance once.

Does you having his child make any diff to diac?

Hmm, well not that it doesn't, they want to know he will go home at the end of his visa.

I'd agree with KrisB.

Tourist visa, that will give him 3 months. It will cover your birth situation so he can be there with you. Be the least hassle also.

Maybe apply 8 weeks before you are due to give birth, just in case he only receives a 3 month single entry visa and it starts from the date of approval (not from date of arrival in OZ)

Sponsoring helps a great deal. I guaranteed my GFs visits financially, but, they still wanted to see her original bank book and salary slips.

The main problem I can envisage is the financial one.

As has been advised, you can sponsor your boyfriend but spending so much time

in Thailand, what is your financial situation like?

DIAC will want to see that you have sufficient money if you're going to sponsor so payslips,

bank account details or group certificates are usually required.

You advise that you're not working, where are you living and how will you afford to sponsor him?

Those are some of the issues you will need to address.

There is a good link in obtaining a tourist visa started by David48

Having a baby and the father not wanting to return to Thailand may be an issue also.

The processing period for a tourist visa is approx 10 days.

Good luck with it.

+1

She who must be obeyed has had to produce the bank book for her latest application, though this time round we threw in a copy of my work permit and visa extension stamp and marriage certificates as further proof.

Given that she's had 2 education visas in addition to a previous tourist visa, I can't see DIAC having too many issues with her application.

As for the OP cash in hand might not be a problem if it can be proved that this is how it's done by the company whom your partner works for. Failing that, bung it all into a bank account and along with the letter from the employer, shouldn't be too many issues for the financial aspect.

Still a good amount of time to get this all in order, though you probably won't want to be dealing with this nuances when your 7+ months pregnant ;)

A letter from his employee and bank account are good enough.
