PATTAYA: -- A 25 year old Russian became the victim of a necklace snatch in South Pattaya on Wednesday Night.

Police were called to the scene of the alleged crime, in-between Soi’s 5 and 6 off the Pratamnuk Road, by Mr. Ivan Alexcev who claimed to have lost a 25k Gold Necklace worth 70,000 Baht after two Thai Men on a motorbike came up beside him, as he left his Hotel with a friend, and snatched the gold necklace from around Mr. Alexcev’s neck.

Police were later able to arrest the two suspects, Khun Pishit aged 19 and Khun Nuchapon of the same age, in South Pattaya close to a Bus Station.

I don't understand how a 25k gold necklace is worth 70,000baht?

25 karat gold necklace... 70,000baht... what is there to understand?

But isn't 100 % pure gold 24 karat?

I am 110% sure!

25 carat would mean 5 grams of gold, about $200 if 24 karat....so heaven knows!

I always wondered why some would use tattoos as body ornaments...

Finally I understand...

Cannot be snatched...

But beware of solid gold nipple piercings if you like to go around shirtless!

OUCH!

Nice hot-pants!

should have known mbetter than to wear ANY gold chain in Thailand tourist areas, especially Pattaya!

Sad state is affairs when you can't walk outside wearing something for fear of being robbed. What's this place becoming ?

Women wear necklaces, men wear chains. (In my opinion anyway).

Judging by those "alley stalking" trousers he is wearing I would call it a necklace. What happened to them, did they shrink on him ?

I misread the heading of this story and jumped right in, did not read the word "necklace" so I was a bit disappointed actually. whistling.gif

Yes true, I put mine in the safe while here, even having a expensive SLR Digital $$$ Nikon Camera around your neck shows you are a target, women with shoulder purses ...women wearing jewelry..." like catching a fish the more the glitter the more you attract the fish" I have even taken off my gold rings... the less ya show the better... keep low profile while here during the peak tourist season.

I trust I will see more gangs tempted by quick money by stealing from tourist.

I see in the original Pattaya news article that the necklace has been reunited with its rightful owner....I wonder if the necklace is happy to be reunited?

Love the local english, always makes me smile. But hey its better then my Thai!

I normally leave the house with my pants, shirt and shoes on and never a problem. I wore a semi-expensive watch for awhile and of course have my B15,000 smartphone on me and often carry my ipad around in my hand again without any problems. What I have not done is string B75,000 on a string and wear it around my neck as some kind of fashion accessory as I expect it would put me in grief in short order.

Looks like "All Flash and No Cash"....should sell his gold chain and buy some

decent clothes.....Who would wear flashy gold chains in Pattaya or any other

Large City, and than cry like a baby when they get robbed, Stupid is as Stupid

does.

There's no 100% gold. They keep dams here to 110 % full, and I'm 199% certain that the Russian had cat gold.

Carat conversion:

58.33% - 62.50% = 14k (acclaimed 58.33%)

75.00% - 79.16% = 18k (acclaimed 75.00%)

91.66% - 95.83% = 22k (acclaimed 91.66%)

95.83% - 99.95% = 23k (acclaimed 95.83%)

99.95 and above = 24k (acclaimed 99.99%) Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carat_(purity)

Carat purity is measured as 24 times the pure mass divided by the total mass:

where

6643e2dd8eb060850bbfe62e899f18e7.png is the carat rating of the material, 61b5068b5b759ca61b3567ecf0c74628.png is the mass of pure gold or platinum in the material, and 1fa926410c869d167ee022e2f5dd7520.png is the total mass of the material.

I imagine this is a typo or incorrect translation. I would imagine they mean 24k.

carat tells purity of gold!! It does not tell weight of neclace. so price can be whatever, depending on the weight
