December 26, 201312 yr DIN DAENG CRASHDin Daeng residents slam use of tear gasBudsarakham SinlapalavanThe NationBANGKOK: -- Residents including children who live near the site where police fired teargas at the anti-government demonstrators trying to interrupt candidacy registration this morning have been seriously affected by the gas.Police started firing tear gas canisters at protesters at about 7.20am after the Students and People Network for Thailand’s Reform led them in cutting the padlock of Gate 2 and attempted to storm the Thai-Japanese stadium's compound on Vibhavadi Rangsit road. After the gate was opened, the protesters can face-to-face with a police truck that blocked the gate. Police fired several canisters of teargas at the protesters who in turn grabbed some of the canisters and hurled them back into the compound. Some protesters were also hit by rubber bullets.Residents of the Din Daeng flats nearby were forced to close doors and windows and use fans blow the tear gas dust from their rooms.Arisa Makkui said her six-month-old daughter was affected by from tear gas, waking up in fright and crying as the first canisters were fired at the protesters."Police should stop firing teargas because this is a community where there are many small children and old people," she said.Meanwhile Somsri Temtung said her three-month-old baby and four-year-old daughter were also affected by the chemicals. She used a fan to blow the dust out of the room. She said she wanted to see all sides stop fighting as it causes problems for the flat residents. She added if the protesters had not incited police, there would not have been any need for tear gas.Neung Romrat takes care of her paralysed aunt and said she is unable to move away from her flat.-- The Nation 2013-12-26
December 26, 201312 yr The headline about "slamming" use of tear gas is a bit misleading. She added if the protesters had not incited police, there would not have been any need for tear gas.
December 26, 201312 yr Popular Post The headline about "slamming" use of tear gas is a bit misleading. She added if the protesters had not incited police, there would not have been any need for tear gas. Also "She said she wanted to see all sides stop fighting as it causes problems for the flat residents." I have a feeling that there is an actual silent majority in Thailand, and their sentiment is like this.
December 26, 201312 yr "After the gate was opened, the protesters can face-to-face with a police truck that blocked the gate. Police fired several canisters of teargas at the protesters who in turn grabbed some of the canisters and hurled them back into the compound. Some protesters were also hit by rubber bullets." So the students broke in and found the gate blocked. I assume this meant they couldn't get in. Then the BIB opened up on them with tear gas and rubber bullets. Hmm. I'm no fan of suthep or his fascist councils brave new world plans but this does seem to have been an overreaction by the BIB.
December 26, 201312 yr Just proves that both sides of the divide don't care about "normal" people!! They are just means to be used, so whoever can get their place at the feeding-trough!!

Overreaction? Perhaps or perhaps not. I wasn't there, so I can only read and wait for more developments.
December 26, 201312 yr why worry wear a rd shirt and the government will pay you massive compensation
December 26, 201312 yr The headline about "slamming" use of tear gas is a bit misleading. She added if the protesters had not incited police, there would not have been any need for tear gas. No it isn't, it is 100% accurate. But even if it was misleading what would it matter?
December 26, 201312 yr I'd love for someone to interview the 'vocational students' to find out their political views and thoughts the reform process. They are best known for inter school thuggery like shooting at students on crowded buses and chasing down and knifing rival students. So their thoughts on reform and what exactly they are protesting about etc would be enlightening.....or not....

I'm no fan of suthep or his fascist councils brave new world plans but this does seem to have been an overreaction by the BIB. Perhaps it's an overreaction and the police clearly haven't behaved professionally in some cases today. But it's not like the protesters found the gate blocked and then thought 'oh well, let's just stand by and peacefully protest then' is it? They were trying to force their way into the stadium, hence the police reaction. Whether they could have fought them without tear gas and rubber bullets is open to question though. I've seen pictures of some students armed with knives, bottles, bricks and the usual makeshift weapons, and perhaps in those circumstances it's best for police to try to maintain distance by tear gas use rather than engage in close quarters combat?
December 26, 201312 yr Give this reporter a break- he is from the Yellow Naiton Rag . He is just trying to rally opposition to the government. What is he supposed to do-? report the news? No- he is supposed to engage in the yellow journalism that the Nation hopes will swing favor to the fascists. Now can we get a picture of a sick puppy ?

Did the weapons appear before or after the police opened fire? Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of this group but their behavior appears to be the result of having been fired upon. Doesn't justify them carrying knives I know or their actions, however the police do appear to have been very quick to open fire. First option rather than final resort. The BIB do not seem to be able to deal with situations like this, there is no consistency in their responses. Still i see your point on facing knife wielding thugs.
December 26, 201312 yr The headline about "slamming" use of tear gas is a bit misleading. She added if the protesters had not incited police, there would not have been any need for tear gas. Also "She said she wanted to see all sides stop fighting as it causes problems for the flat residents." I have a feeling that there is an actual silent majority in Thailand, and their sentiment is like this. I asked a Thai lady friend (yes bar-girl) which side she supported in the unrest. (Thinking it would be the Red Shirts but unsure) She gave me a puzzled look and said " what you mean, both sides same same, crook, just steal money, I only support the King. He only one. Rest just steal, very bad" And there you have it. A 28 year old bar-girl has a full understanding of the big picture. "both side same, same, crook" My fear is the King dies during this unrest. After the requisite period of mourning the unrest will intensify greatly.

No- he is supposed to engage in the yellow journalism that the Nation hopes will swing favor to the fascists. Now can we get a picture of a sick puppy ? So, you think the reporter is lying about Din Daeng Flats residents objecting to rubber bullets and teargas flying right near their homes? These same people were not very happy about the Red Shirts setting up barricades and burning tires right outside their homes back in 2010 either. What precisely do you think is inaccurate or "yellow" about this report?
