A bloke I know here insists that diesel will rise to 40 baht a litre from January. Tells me it's fact. He read it in the Bangkok Post. Got angry when I told him that that could be a rumour. I said, "Gee that's no good.".....and left it at that.

Actually the Abhisit government introduced a limited time waiver on the diesel excise tax.

That has run out now.

If the EC rules that a continuation of the subsidy is against the law (buying votes) the price will automatically raise with 10% by law.

Sorry meant 10 baht, it will be 40 baht per liter.

Fortunately the EC has allowed the government to extend the exemption another month.
