AussiePokerGuy
I'm planning a trip to Thailand with some friends, and we are actually considering cancelling and extending our stay in Europe instead since we've heard all these reports of planted drugs, urine tests, dodgy police, scam tour's etc etc Any help would be much appreciated. (Note: we will not be touching any drugs in Thailand, just wondering about urine tests as they relate to weed) 1. So are they urine testing for marijuana in Thailand or not? (Specifically marijuana, me and my friends never touch hard-drugs) 2. How long should you refrain from smoking for weed not to appear on a Thai urine test? 3. As a tourist who tested positive, would you be deported, or locked up? (Specifically for weed, not meth or anything else) 4. If 3.'s answer is 'locked up', for how long and approximately how many ppl has this happened to? (again, marijuana specifically) 5. What are the chances of having drugs planted on you? What amount of money are you expected to pay as the bribe? We also saw on the news a Melbourne couple in August of 2013 who noticed a lock was missing on one of their bags, so not feeling safe checking at the airport they went back to a hotel, searched and found drugs planted. They rung the embassy who said to watch out for ppl who may have followed them, and dispose of it ASAP, + don't say a word till they are back in Australia. This is quite frightening advice from the Aussie embassy... These were well experienced travellers in Thailand too, had been many times, has anyone heard of other situations like this? Thanks in advance Edited January 2, 2014 by AussiePokerGuy
hanno
Maybe I hang out in the wrong places (i.e. I do not go too FMP's or Kao San Road) but I have never been tested for drugs in Thailand. I guess the best bet would be to lay off the drugs and stick to (legal) booze. I do not believe most of these "the drugs were planted" stories; they were drug mules pure and simple and got caught in a part of the world that has some of the strictest drug laws in the world. IMA_FARANG
Simple answer. Don't do drugs. Like it not pot is considered a drug in Thailand. So deal with it, druggie, if you can't stay off the pot for a couple of weeks to pass a urine test, that's your funeral. No sympathy here.
CharlieH
If you cant lay off it for a few weeks holiday, then you have bigger problems to worry about. As for the rest of it, no worse than any other country or tourist place, but remember "if you run in the sewers you will encounter rats !" . Behave yourself act respectfully and responsibly and you will hace a great time.

To answer the op's questions, my understanding is that the common urine tests done here are only for meth or ya ba, they turn purlpe if stimulants are recently used, a pot test is more complex and expensive. Have not heard of any planted drug stories but that is not impossible but highly improbable.. there are thousands of young backpackers here at any given time and most have a nice time here or they they wouldn't return.

No need to be so judgemental, I did ask how long I should refrain from it. I will 100% make sure I have nothing in my system before arriving simply as a precaution, but I want to make sure my friends are OK too and pass on any helpful info I can gather here. Here read it and enjoy ! http://www.thailawforum.com/tourst-guide-laws-Thailand-4.html NB --------The "urine" test is used as a screening tool. A positive test (it WILL detect cannabis use) will result in arrest and detention whilst specimens are subject to more advanced laboratory analysis. Cannabis use can be detected for up to 30 days post use. You have been warned !
noahvail
I think if I were returning to Australia after pursuing the lifestyle one might infer from your posts, I'd be bloody sure to have all new clean luggage that's never been used. That way, when they swab it in Oz,it will come up clean. Thailand isn't the only country to have strict laws, and based on several of you traveling together, you might profile for further examination. Or not - I don't know. I'd just make sure I do anything I could to be 100% legal.
thailiketoo
Try Denver. Skiing great and I think the weed is legal now. If you subtract the cost of bribing cops here the airfare is probably the same. Edited January 2, 2014 by thailiketoo

mickjn
My advice to you Sir I just do not come, you are going to burst an ulcer in your guts will worry and hospital treatment is expensive here.Anyway if you decide to come and you want a bit of smoko what you most guys do they would ask a bar girl could it be obtained. The answer would be in the affirmative and there your problem starts. It would be obtained at a very high price or the lady would want to stay with you, you give her the lemonade and sars and 2 hours later the coppers will be running through your door.Do not do drugs in Thailand Edited January 2, 2014 by metisdead Font reset to default forum font. So yea I thinks its blown out of proportion more than its not I used to stay at the KTK in Pattaya and the police would set up there 2 or 3 a week and they would get 3 or 4 men and women every time then close down. They could be there 20 minutes or 2 hours.Besides that I agree with you I have never seen anyone searched or pulled over for drugs

metisdead
2. How long should you refrain from smoking for weed not to appear on a Thai urine test? As the use and possession of weed is illegal in Thailand and in accordance with this forum rule: 16) Not to post about gambling, betting, pornography, illegal drugs, fake goods/clothing etc and other activities that are officially illegal in Thailand.
