ASUS Thailand Warranty - Be aware!!!

I hereby want to warn all you computer enthusiast out there who builds your own stationary computers.

What is a warranty worth? You think when you are dealing with the known brands it would count for a good customer service, right?

I built a high-end workstation for my 3D-design work and gaming and chose ASUS, at that time, top of the line mainboard, Asus Rampage 4 Extreme.

The mainboard stopped suddenly to work and I sent it to Asus for repair as they said they did not have any customer center for this product. It hade to be sent to Taiwan. They told us it would take 4-6 weeks to get it repaired. Compare that with a high-end Gigabyte mainboard which i had that stopped to work a year earlier and it took 30min, yes 30 min to get it tested and confirmed for a replacement.

Now after 4-5 month i still have not got the Asus mainboard back, neither a replacement board. he board is back in Thailand but still not working according to Asus Thailand, and has to be repaired again. God knows how long time it will take this time. One could think they just are waiting till i buy a new computer.

I will never, NEVER buy an Asus product again as i have had many other problems with them before also. This reminds me about a Philips mobile phone i bought 25 years ago, 1989. I paid equivalent to around US$4000-4500 for it which was a fortune for a 19 year old working class youngster who wished to play with the big boys. Immature i know but i was only 19 years old. One year hard work and saving bought me this phone and a computer. Anyway I had the phone for about 11 month and it was at service 10 times for all kinds of problems, or the other way around 10 month and serviced 11 times. Anyhow, after this i have always felt an unpleasant taste in my mouth every time the Philips brand was mentioned, and still after 25 years.

Again...ASUS Warranty - Be aware!!!

buy the cheapest and toss it when it goes beyond use. oh yes and buy anything electronic/breakable on your visa trips to penang. thats what visa trips are for, immigration know this and tailor made the penang solution..

Well, I agree about Philips - total rubbish and not trustworthy.

I've bought 2 Philips items in my life, one about 30 years ago and one 3 years ago.

The first item (a stereo system) always had something wrong with it and spent most of its life in the repair shop.

The last item, an electric shaver, I thought may be okay, seeing as I hadn't bought a Philips item for so many years. Maybe the quality had improved.

Nope, I never got a decent shave from it and had to use a scraper if I let my stubble grow more than 24 hours.

Went to buy a replacement cutting head for it - and was informed that spare parts were no longer available. Jeez, it was only 2 years old!

I bought a BRAUN shaver, instead - it does a great job, even after a 2-day growth! thumbsup.gif

Much like the OP, I get hackles rising when I see Philips products. bah.gif

I bought an ASUS smart phone some years ago, biggest piece of c4ap I had ever owned and swore I would nver buy another of their products. I relented recently and bought an ASUS transformer tablet, big mistake. The thing is a pig, slower to boot then a bloated windows machine, adware imbedded in the android operating system, quoted 15 hrs battery life is 3 if on wifi, I have never gotten more than 5 hours out of the thing. Absolute garbage.

I bought an Asus taichi laptop/tablet last year in March. Used in twice and kept it. Last one, tried to on it and the battery is not working. The Asus centre here does not have the in-built batteries, have to sent to Taiwan and takes 8 weeks plus the cost is crazy. NEVER NEVER BUY ASUS PRODUCTS.

It's not so much a problem with Asus, the thing is that you should always check if the mainboard or your product you buy comes from the official distributor. Not so long ago I had a Asus Maximus VI Formula mainbboard that didn't want to start anymore.

One trip to Panthip Bangkok and the Synnex Service center and 30 minutes later I had a new mainboard. When I bought the mainboard I could have saved 600 THB if I bought it from another shop, but the mainboard from that shop didn't have the Synnex warranty sticker....

If you ever wondered why Thai people always want to see the product they buy, they probably check for the warranty stickers...

My company have for a small fortune one PQI DDR II and DDR III memory (regular sim modules) in repair at Hardware house for more than 2 months. If we had bought Kingston we had new memory modules in 30 minutes...

Its all about where you buy stuff, maybe one shop is a bit cheaper but warranty is out of the window....

Just to interject one positive warranty experience here. My US purchased GATEWAY laptop crashed 11 months into my one year warranty. I took it to the ACER service center in Fortune Tower. Acer covers Gateway repairs in Thailand. Considering all the negative things I had read about Acer, I wasn't expecting much. Surprisingly, they looked it up, confirmed that it was still covered by warranty, then got it functioning enough for me to do a back-up. They then replaced the HD, no charge.

You never know.

I just got a Sony phone repaired under warranty, even though it was obvious I had dropped it, and I had admitted to doing so. They even repaired the damaged case for me.

Warranty in thailand is usually a lot better than in europe, always buy stuff with the synnex sticker and you'll get a replacement within 30 minutes.

I bought a Sony laptop in USA with a worldwide coverage, when I brought it to Thailand and six months later, my laptop froze and one of the keys fell off. I took it to the local Sony repair shop and to my amazement, my laptop's keyboard, power unit and other parts were totally replace with new parts in less time then the 10 days they provided me as the turn around time with no questions or any charges. In my book, there are some places or companies that do resect product warranties.

Weird how they have done such a good job with the nexus tablets. All good so far.
