Whats required to go to Laos with my son for a day , cross Chiang Khong

Featured Replies

I am going to be in Chiang Khong this weekend and want to go to Laos with my son . He has a Thai passport and I have my Canadian passport .

He wants to do a day trip in to Laos . My wife and daughter are not coming with us ,

What is required of me for paper work for me to take my son to Laos ?

Does my wife need to sign any papers or letter because she will be staying in Bkk?

Thanks in advance

One of those "Just In Case" situations.

I think it'd be a good idea for you to have such a letter signed by your wife, naming you and the son, with passport numbers, along with a copy of her Thai ID card signed and dated.

See what happens at CK Immigration without showing the letter, then if there's a question, pull it out.

Let us know how it goes, please, for future reference.

FYI, Ban Houei Sai is an interesting place, I used to live there some long years ago. Get a tuk tuk and go up to the old French fort on the hilltop, Fort Carnot. Do some Googling for history of the place. And, take a look right on the north side of the fort, that area where a government office now sits used to be an "airport" of sort.

If you live in Thailand don't forget to get a re-entry stamp by filling in a TM8 before you leave Thailand.

Up date to taking my son to Laos via Chiang Khong .

I had no problems did not have to present any papers or birth certificate to the immigration .

All I used was his Thai passport and clear sailing ,

But they did ask my son in Thai if I was the father and asked him his name and were he lived

I am not saying at some time a customs officer won't ask for more info.

Like letter from wife , marriage papers . Wife's signed ID

I had all documents just in case they asked
