Hi I’m new to this website and forum board.

I’m looking to teach at an international school in Bangkok or nearby provinces.

I’m an Australian and I’m looking for an international school based job with a pay level of at least 50000 Baht per month or more.

I have recent teaching experience at a major Thai university.

I hold a CELTA English teaching certificate and a Bachelors degree in business

I have some questions that I need straight answers to.

I am about to enrol in a 12 to 18 month diploma of education from an Australian university. Will this be enough to secure a well paid teaching position at an international school in Bangkok?

Is 50000 Baht per month too much to ask for a job like this in Thailand?

How difficult are these better international school jobs to come by?

Are high school level or primary school level teachers more sort after at international schools in Bangkok?

How likely is it to have classes that are in subjects other than English at these better international schools?

How possible is it to be hired from outside Thailand to work with one of these international schools?

Thanking you all in advance for your help

Hi; we didn't forget you. In fact, there are few actual teachers in international schools who take an active part in this area of the ThaiVisa forums. Many of us have opinions or ideas, but not direct experience, so we didn't comment.

Does anybody care to answer his questions, which in fact have been answered elsewhere in fairly good measure?

In my amateur opinion, I can't see a fully qualified teacher getting less than 100,000 baht/month if they're teaching in their field of expertise, but then again, your major is business, so I don't know.

Also, you're asking us to speculate 18 months into the future in Thailand. Let's just say Thailand's not entirely predictable. :o

Good luck. Care to ask us again, any specific question you might still have? Thanks.

Many schools in Thailand which use the word "international" in their names are not true international schools...and this includes the ones who would pay around 50,000 or less per month. True international schools tend to hire directly from the country with which they are attached via job fairs and many of those teachers even have Master's Degrees. If an international school does take somebody already living here (and they occassionally may) the starting salary would be significantly lower, but I think it would be a good bit more than 50,000. It is entirely possible to earn around 80,000-100,000/month at one of these schools, especially if you've been there for a while. However, I think an international school will work you to death. Probably not a good bet if you're trying to avoid high stress on the job. Good luck!

My understanding is that it is very difficult to get a position at an International school without Education degrees. Furthermore, they recruit from overseas rather than hire locally. The pay is very high at 80-250K THB.

The 50K THB you mentioned can be had at several good private schools with English Programs.

Yeah has pretty much been answered on the other board...will struggle to get into the proper/top Int schools, should be okay for the others though...and who knows you might get lucky...but most like a PGCE or BEd etc.
