Metformin side effects

Yesterday the Dr. here at Hang Dong hospital started me on metformin for high blood sugar. I am to take 500 mg twice a day with food. After eating supper I took the first dose. I have had diarrhea all night last night and continuing today, plus vomiting. Is this normal when starting this med??

These are known side effects though most people do not experience it as badly as you report.

It is possible that you have an unrelated GI bug.

If it persists, see your doctor.

How high was your blood sugar? If not too high you might consider trying to control this with diet and exercise alone.

My blood sugar was 166. My thought is to start off with a smaller doseage.

I have thought the same about maybe having picked a virus at the hospital.

If this keeps up I will go se the doc monday.
