I'm in the process of getting paperwork together for a UK family visit visa, my brother has invited us to stay with him, he has 2 bedrooms spare, one for me and wife, one for our 2 sons (aged 12 and 6). I asked him for a letter of invitation, photos, copy of passport, mortgage agreement, utility bills etc. Problem is my brother is not married yet, and the property and all utility bills are in his fiancees name. Is the ECO likely to question this ?, should I seek alternative accommodation ?.

I really don't think it would be an issue.

When my partner and I have travelled to the UK and stayed with friends and family, I have asked our hosts to supply no more than a brief letter inviting us to stay and giving a line describing the house and the accommodation available, and included a contact number and/or email address.

If they are family then no more details have been supplied, in the case of friends then a line about why we have been invited.

I wouldn't see the need to supply utility bills, and certainly not details of their finances, or a copy of their passports.

Same Same When my mother in law visited for 3 months after the birth of our youngest in 2012 that is all the information we supplied & she did not have the luxury of her own room.

Thanks theoldgit and Waterloo, that's reassuring.

Seems wearied that when someone is being invited to stay with family or friends that one should go into great detail about the size, number of bedrooms and who will be sleeping where with photos.

Of course it does depend on how long someone would be staying but if it is only for a week or two, if someone has to sleep on the couch, so what...

If they are concerned I am sure with the aid of Google maps they could get a good idea of 99.9% of all properties in the UK quicker than making a phone call.
