Note: I saw Ms. Yingluck on a panel on women at Davos 2012 moderated by Nick Kristof of the NY Times. She delivered her prepared remarks in Thai (with simultaneous translation) but joined the panel discussion in English and she did just fine as Mr. Kristof commented. She got her degree in the states 22 years ago. It's also quite possible to be good at written English, but not spoken English, which is definitely the case with a lot of Thais. ** I don't think she's a rocket scientist. I've always liked this photo too, but never thought along those lines at all, of COURSE the wealthy elite are as pretentious as pretentious can be anywhere in the world.
