Stevia (natural sweetener) available in Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

Hi, I brought some Stevia sweetener for my coffee from the U.S. but my supply finally ran out. I found Stevia at Rimping near Airport Plaza, but it's got an odd flavor and doesn't completely dissolve. Anyone know of an alternative Stevia source here in Chiang Mai...or is anyone going/returning to the States anytime soon who can bring back some Stevia for me? I would, of course, pay you. Thanks!

It is easy to get ground leaves and liquid extract here, but not the processed stuff that is a white powder. I have never been able to find it in Chiang Mai, although I have heard that a few places sell it in Bangkok.

Why not use honey ?

Stevia has no calories or carbohdrates. Honey has both.

I found leaves in Chiang Mai but when I soak them in water the results have a very grassy smell and taste. Put me off coffee for a week after trying it.

Can you grow it from seed here or is that too much hassle?. I have a friend in Andalucia who grows his own!

i bought some a year or so ago at the health food store on Nimm. i don't know the exact name, perhaps Adem or something like that. someone here will know as it's very popular store but it tasted odd and i threw it away.

Stevia extract can be ordered online from iherb.com. I don't use stevia but every few months buy nutritional yeast from the company and with the last order a packet of stevia was included.

According to the iherb site, it's available in several forms--liquid, powder, and individual packets. Shipping to Chiang Mai is $4 and takes about 2 weeks for delivery.

'Heisenberg' (Dr. Walter White, now deceased) gave the Evil Yuppie Lydia some very special Stevia on the last episode of Breaking Bad.

Or just try Sativa. It's much better than Stevia, and it has some added benefits.
