Time Spent Out Of UK

Featured Replies

My wife currently has a settlement visa and we are settled in the UK.

I am retired and we are considering spending a few months together in Thailand each year - probably 3 months during the UK winter.

Does anyone foresee any problems when she comes to apply for FLR/ILR/Citizenship?

Looking at previous posts it seems like there are no fixed limits and UKVI just take a view on what is reasonable. If so, does anyone know what "reasonable" normally is.

I would have thought that 3 months per year is not unreasonable but I'd like to know what others think and if anyone has personal experience of this in their applications.

Many thanks.

I may be wrong, but i thought for citizenship you could not be out of the country more than 450 days in preceding 5 years, and no more than 90 days in the last year,,

3 months a year does not seem unreasonable to me, but i can not find any where where a time is specified

Yes looks like you're right about the citizenship rule - actually says no more than 270 days out of uk in 3 years before application for citizenship and no more than 90 days in the last year.

Probably best to keep our Thailand time to just under 90 days a year.

Thanks
