Key suspect takes full blame in 'suicide' note

Police say enough evidence against other four suspects

Shortly before police were to apprehend him yesterday, a key suspect in the murder of MP Kobkul Nopamornbodi in Ratchaburi on Saturday drank poison-laced beer and died, leaving a suicide note acquitting others who had already been arrested.

Four suspects have been apprehended. One is Jamron Omthong, a kamnan in Ban Lad district in neighbouring Phetchaburi province. Another is his son, Suppharit.

I wonder how much it took for the dose to be lethal. AND, if that amount would taint the taste of the beer. :o Really leaves a lot of room for speculation.....

"Sa-ngad's wife Thassawan told police he was drinking beer alone at the house of a local politician in the Don Tako tambon of Muang Ratchaburi district when she last saw him. Sa-ngad was later found lying unconscious with saliva coming out of his mouth."

Interesting! But where was he found? How often do Thai's pack it in after popping in / no make that whilst visiting someone elses house? :o

Sangad's wife, Thassawan Pumpeng, found her husband with a fuming house at the house of another suspect, Pongpat Naknoo, the manager of Srimuang Market.

PS- could the husband with a fuming house actually have been a foaming mouth ? I would think so...

Opps-- :o Hmmmm.... Seems a bit of confusion on where the actual poisoning took place:

Suspect poisoned, 'may have been silenced'

WASSAYOS NGAMKHAM

One of five suspects in the murder of former MP Kobkul Nop-amornbodi died after taking poison in Ratchaburi yesterday, in what appeared to be a suicide. However, police suspected that the death of Sa-ngad Poompeng was the work of the mastermind behind the murder, who wanted to silence him.

Sa-ngad was one of the five suspects wanted by Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) police, who arrested and took into custody the other four suspects _ Anon Phanrat, Jaron Uamthong and his son Suparuek, and Anantasak Srisawat.

Police allege that Mr Anon drove a vehicle for the group when they opened fire on the former Thai Rak Thai MP with M-16 assault rifles on Saturday, killing her instantly.

Police earlier said that political and business conflicts were behind the murder, implicating a national politician in the high-profile case. On Tuesday, ex-senator Napinthon Srisanpang denied any involvement in the murder.

After arresting the other four suspects, police found that Sa-ngad had escaped to his wife's house in Ratchaburi's Suan Phung district, where he allegedly took poison. He died later in hospital.

Police investigators said Sa-ngad left a note which read: ''I did it alone. Senator Napinthon has nothing to do with the [murder] case.''

CIB deputy commissioner Pol Maj-Gen Assawin Kwanmuang, who led the arrest team, said he had ordered his men to carefully gather and check forensic evidence _ such as fingerprints and the note _ as Sa-ngad, who might have identified whoever was behind the murder of the MP, may have been silenced to stop him revealing information.

Police have charged the other four suspects with conspiracy to murder and murder.

All the suspects except Mr Anon have denied the charges.

Police expressed confidence that they have sufficient evidence to nail the mastermind.

Daughter: Suspect was murdered

The daughter of Sa-ngad Poompeng, a suspect in the murder of former Ratchaburi MP Kobkul Nop-amornbodi who died after taking poison on Wednesday, says her father's death was murder and not suicide. Anoo Poompeng, 27, said she believes her father was silenced by the mastermind behind Kobkul's murder.

She said that Sa-ngad had vehemently disagreed with the idea of suicide.

Sa-ngad died in a house in Suan Phung district after leaving a note saying he was the sole killer of Kobkul. He had been wanted by police, who earlier arrested four other suspects.

Sa-ngad's boss and former Ratchaburi senator Napinthon Srisanpang yesterday reiterated that he had nothing to do with the May 27 murder of Kobkul. But he admitted that almost all of the suspected gunmen were his aides.

"yep.... just puuuuure coincidence"

on a side note... I'm hoping the suspect's daughter doesn't all of a sudden decide to follow both her father AND her mother and "commit suicide" herself...

Sorry but no, as that would be outside his purview as a police officer. He CAN, however, provide us with a new specific deadline to end the violence in the Deep South, as well as an exact date that all corruption will cease.

Police inspect cadaver of murder suspect

The death of a parliamentary elect murder suspect has been concluded as death by ingestion of poison pills, while authorities have begun tests on the murder suspect's tissue in order to determine if the death was foul play.

Police Maj. General Somyoth Deemag (สมยศ ดีมาก), spokesman of the Police General Hospital, stated that the autopsy of Mr. Saghat Pompeng's (สงัด พุ่มเพ็ง) body revealed his recent death was due to the failure of his circulation system possibly from the ingestion of poison pills, resulting in severe shock, extremely low blood pressure, and massive cellular death.

Mr. Saghat is 1 of 5 murder suspects of Mrs. Koabkul Nopamornbudi (กอบกุล นพอมรบดี), a former parliamentary elect of Rajburi province. Further analysis of Mr. Saghat's intestinal tissue, as well as his blood and bodily secretions will be carried out.

Clips fished from river, but rifles missing

Two magazines from an M-16 assault rifle that police suspect are connected to the alleged contract-killing of Thai Rak Thai MP Kobkul Nopamornbodi were retrieved from the Mekong River yesterday, but the killer rifles have yet to be located.

Pol Maj Gen Asawin Kwanmuang, deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, led a group of 30 frogmen yesterday on a dive for the M-16s that one of the arrested suspects said had been thrown into the river in front of a temple in Photharam district of Ratchaburi.

Meanwhile, a pickup truck suspected of having been used by the hit-men last Saturday was found abandoned in a village in Suan Phung district, near the Myanmar border.

Napinthorn Srisanpang, a former Ratchaburi senator and the owner of the province’s largest fresh market, indicated that he was ready to testify before police officials and asserted he was not involved in Kobkul’s death, even though he knew some of the arrested suspects personally.

The good General might be indisposed as he had already committed to making Ratchaburi completely drug-free by 15:00.... so likely the murder won't get seen to until 16:00.

As someone just said you could not made this up.

It is rather macabre but you could modify Monty Pythons "4 Yorkshiremen" with this story!

"And the kids of today would never beleive it"

Just try telling this story to anyone without a knowledge of Thailand - they would have you carted away in a strait jacket

Tight security for murder re-enactment

Two of the six suspects in the murder of former Thai Rak Thai MP Kobkul Nopamornbodee yesterday re-enacted the crime under tight security over fears for their safety.

Police officers had Winyu Rattanawannee and Anont Phanrat wear armoured vests for fear that they might be shot while out in the open. They also closed off many roads near the re-enactment scenes and posted more than 1,000 police officers and volunteers on standby to control the situation.

Late last month another suspect - Sa-ngad Phumpheng - was found dead shortly before police could arrest him. Although Sa-ngad wrote a suicide note before drinking poisoned beer, it was widely speculated that he might have been forced to take his life.

Anont and Winyu were charged with premeditated murder. Two accomplices - Chayasit Weerawong-rawong, or Korawit, and Wanchana Supachaisirimuang - are being held as state witnesses. The other key suspect is Anantasak Srisawas.

Winyu yesterday told police that he agreed to join the murder team as a driver for the gunmen in order to repay Anantasak, who had supported him and his family. He said he was not paid for the job.

Two suspects taken back to murder scene

Police took two key suspects back to the scene of the murder of former Thai Rak Thai MP for Ratchaburi Kobkul Nop-amornbodi yesterday. Tight security surrounded the return of Winyu Rattanawanna, the alleged driver of the vehicle used by the killers, and Anon Phanrat, who police say confessed to being one of the gunmen.

According to police, about 3pm on May 27 Anantasak Srisawat, another suspect, telephoned Mr Winyu and Mr Anon telling them to go in a pick-up truck to Sri Muang market in Ratchaburi.

They were to get M-16 rifles hidden in a BMW car belonging to Mr Anantasak and take the weapons to Mr Anon's house. About 7pm, Chayasit Weeraworawong drove Mr Anantasak to Mr Anon's house. Then Mr Winyu drove Mr Anantasak and Mr Anon in a pick-up to Wat Aranyik in Tambon Lum Din. The rifles were in the back of the pick-up truck.

The murder team caught up with the MP's car at a red light at an intersection, police said.

Mr Anantasak and Mr Anon opened fire at Kobkul's car, then headed to Sri Muang market and hid the weapons in a nearby rubbish dump, according to police.

The two suspects dumped the weapons in the river and returned to Sri Muang market, where they were later detained by police.

Police retrieved an M-16 assault rifle _ believed to be one of the two murder weapons _ and two magazines, one fully loaded, from the Mae Klong river.

She isn't dead, the rumour is the slain MP's team were a harsh lot who had disposed of a member of a rival group in politics, influence in business, contracts, etc.

The killing was revenge, apparently.
