It's a misleading list.

Retirement for who?

The nationals of those countries?

Canada for example which has no retirement visa option whatsoever and I'm sure many of those countries are the same.

How many of us who aren't Finns have thought about flying to Helsinki right now to relax?

Oy Vey!

If you're the target demographic for the report, you can retire just about any darn place you please.

You and I would call it "risking our life savings", and we'd actually have to make a go of the business we'd start..

They call it getting an investor's visa for pocket change. They really couldn't care less if it pays out.

Lifted because it is #2 for economics - ie everyone is so rich that they can afford the expensive lifestyle in Australia

Oh yeah. The one percent.

Still, 1% of 7 billion people is a target market of 70 million people. Imagine a market with even more people than all of Thailand, but all of them with money. Lots of it.

But you can't use traditional methods to sell to them.

You have to do things like publishing a report on the best places for them to retire.

Get the idea?

It's just a travel brochure for the rich. Fluff with an agenda. Just think of all the money they'll be dumping in 5 star hotels checking the places out. Stroke of genius, this report is.

Well I suppose if you are the cowardly lion from the Wizard of OZ afraid of the countries financial health, economic

well-being, some abstract quality of life and health rank but that list means S.F.A.(sweet f __k all) to me. coffee1.gif

Just wondering why all the people from the top countries cannot wait to come back to Thailand...

Wait wait wait...

I will go check the methodology again...

Back later...

I think the meaning of this survey is: "How secure are the people who retire from these countries - and stay in their countries after they retire?" rather than "What country would people like to retire to in order to be secure?" For example, if you are a Swiss person and you retire - and remain - in Switzerland, you will be able to maintain a good quality of life after retirement. That's also why Thailand is so far down the list: Thais who retire don't have much to look forward to in terms of pensions, health care, etc.

Was actually hoping to find Montenegro and Dubai in the list but

to no avail

On a slightly more serious note, where's Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia

(Hell, where's patani, yala and the likes?)

I agree with many posting here - this list is garbage.

I've been living in South Korea (17th) for over 10 years now (working). If retired, I would *NOT* want to live here! Terrible summers and winters, EXTREMELY high utility bills, INSANELY high housing costs!

The good points - Low crime, great Fall and Spring seasons, great and affordable health care (for now).

You mention 2 main negative points, one is based on money. I've got an aunt and uncle living in Michigan. Horrible weather. They have enough money to live anywhere in the world they want. And have traveled all over the world. They chose to live there. Ugh.

Believe me, I'm with you. If it snows, I'm out! Expensive or not!!!

If I had enough money to live well in Switzerland I probably would. It's a nice place with many advantages.

And if I had enough money to live well in Switzerland I certainly would not be living in Thailand. There are much better places in the world for everything, but they do (mostly) cost more than here.

Top 20 countries for retirement security

Frankly I'm surprised Thailand even makes the top 100 in terms of retirement security. This country is a ticking time bomb that could explode at any minute.

That list sucks. Who the hell wants to retire in those cold, expensive places? They need to change their criteria to reflect more of what retirement is really about.

There is...as yet...not a category...for hot climate...spicy foods...beer bars and wonton women...sorry...

Wonton women? You mean noodle cart ladies?

Why Yes...Wonton and Wanton women handle noodle of all sizes...foreign and domestic...

In my opinion, "What retirement is all about" is in the eye of the person retiring. My reasons, goals and requirements are unique and may not fit into any published criteria.

These reports are only tools and a good carpenter decides how to best use them.

If something "sucks", then perhaps some additional information, aside from temperature, would be helpful.

Bunch of crap.

Best retirement places for the super rich who can go anywhere any time.

Just plain retarded B.S.

"Nice" descriptors, but not much supporting material.
