I'm currently pondering upgrading my Fiesta to a decent car, say around the 4M THB range.

Interested to hear from guys with experience, what's a ball park figure for insuring for something in that price range? As a side note; the model isnt offered by the manufacturers dealer network in Thailand.

This being the case, do the dealers still support servicing and sourcing parts?

Thanks in advance :)

When I had my 5-Series it was something over 40K Baht for annual insurance. My friend has just re-insured his E-Class and again paid a little over 40K Baht. So you would be talking nearer 50KBaht or more especially if the vehicle is not 'normally' available here. Though it should not be that much of a concern if you are willing to 'invest' that sort of money in a car.

2nd part .... no idea ... but the more rare that the car is one would assume the more likely you are to have problems. To advise someone would need to know the model you are considering.

Thanks for the info, not as much as I thought it would be.

series 1 M coupe, so nothing exotic really, and shares parts with the standard 1 series and M3, but they made less than 3000 of them.

Another question, in the UK there is a service where you can check the cars history, insurance claims, write offs, re-registration etc

Is there anything similar in Thailand?

Care to expand?

I seem to recall the GPS sent one into an English river or something similar.

Or maybe I dreamt it, not 100% sure

The OP is asking about nice cars, he is not asking your advice about buying a pick-up. 40k per year for a 3M+ car so probably about 50k to 60k for a 4M+ car. Are you sure you want to go for a grey market car? I would prefer if going for BMW to go for one which is still have BSI factory. So that means you are ''safe'' for a few years more. Enjoy your search for a NICE car :-)

for a THB 4 million car the annual premium is 50-60,000 Baht depending on model, insurance company and deductible.

40k per month = w00t.gif

it's per annum!

Already edited the typo, thanks for the reminder :-)

The BSI would be good, just a shame the model range offered by BMW Thailand is (IMO) so lame.

From what I can garner from the website, the best 4 series is a four pot diesel M sport for around 4 MTHB.

Then, if you want some more performance, there is a GIANT leap to the M3 (a 4.4 litre V8 with 420HP) - which I couldn't find a price for on the website, but judging by the grey import prices, they'd be >10MTHB.....

BMW make a great turbocharged 3 litre 6 cylinder engine with 300+HP (voted engine of the year 4 years running I read somewhere?)

This engine was in the M1 Coupe I'd seen, which I think has sold already sad.png , but everywhere else this engine is offered in all the series.

The engine is vaguely mentioned on the website, but doesn't show it as available on any model.

I will wait and see what price the 235i M sport is when it arrives, hopefully at BMW, or at the importers.

I've also considered an Audi TTS (4 cylinder turbo, 270HP), loads for sale at around 2.5mil for a 2 years old model, but I'm unsure of the gearbox, or the driving satisfaction...but nearly half the price......anyone had one?

I really like the Audi TTS but the problem in Thailand is that almost all are grey import cars.

Also the problem with Audi is that there arent many service points you can go with your Audi, cant compare it with Benz or BMW in Thailand unfortunately. If they will improve that ( dont think it will happen) I will get a TTS myself as well :-)
