BANGKOK: -- A homemade explosive device has been planted by unknown individuals near a Redshirts rally site in Nonthaburi province.

The bomb was found at around 06.30 in front of Public Waterworks office on Tiwanon Road in the province.

A group of Redshirts demonstrators led by the People′s Radio for Democracy (PRD) have been staging a rally at the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) headquarters nearby.

EOD team later arrived at the scene and determined that the device was composed of fertiliser mixed with gasoline, chains, shards of glass, and a number of "C4 explosives" filled inside a fire extinguisher.

According to the police, the bomb was "highly destructive" and had a blast radius of over 200 metres. Similar types of the devices are commonly found in the restive southern border provinces, an officer added.

The bomb was eventually destroyed by the EOD team.

The police speculated that the bomb carrier initially meant to plant the device near the Redshirts rally at the NACC office, but was forced to abandon the plan and leave the bomb behind when the carrier spotted a police checkpoint in the area.

However, Mr. Sansern Ponjiad, the secretary-general of the NACC, told reporters he believed the bomb was intended to intimidate the anti-corruption commissioners.

Mr. Sansern said unknown assailants have previously planted explosives by the wall of the NACC office.

"This kind of intimidation is illegal," Mr. Sansern complained, "Please put an end to such action".

Things are now getting serious with this IED. The damage this would have done would have been far worse than anything that has gone off in Bangkok to date.

I would not be surprised now if the Military start to step in to the picture now, especially with the Red shirts apparently coming to town.

I can see a lot more deaths and destruction in the near future. Not looking too good at the moment.

I did two tours of Northern Ireland and my own experience was that the IRA were not averse to giving a warning that supplied the wrong location so that people were evacuated to the vicinity of the actual bomb. IRA EDs were usually constructed using sophisticated anti tamper fuses, whereas those used here are usually relatively crude devices by comparison.

Whatever was the motive of the perpetrators, it was wrong for Mr. Sansern Ponjiad, the secretary-general of the NACC, to immediately points a finger that the bomb was intended to intimidate the anti-corruption commissioners citing unknown assailants have previously planted explosives by the wall of the NACC office.

His remarks that "This kind of intimidation is illegal," was of course correct but had sparked accusation that NACC is not independence even in this situation. His accusation was that of intimidation against NACC commissioners not the protesters.

Well, previously planted explosives were probably not meant to show great appreciation of the fine work the NACC is doing. So, this one might very well be in the same order of intimidation.

BTW you forgot to condemn the remark by a police officer who said "Similar types of the devices are commonly found in the restive southern border provinces, an officer added." with the police speculating the bomb was meant for the red-shirts.

Gotta love the yellows' reasoning.

Bomb near yellow rally = reds did it to intimidate us. We would never hurt our own. Thaksin ordered it from Dubai.

Bomb near red rally = reds did it to gain sympathy. Thaksin ordered it from Dubai.

bombs near NACC building with red-shirts staging a fake protest to provoke the Civil Court with their recent ruling ==> rich teachers to the rescue

PS wasn't it in Nontaburi we can a red-shirt failing his 'bomb making 101' exam three years ago?

Just a twist on what the reds have being saying ever since the first grenade was lobbed into a peaceful Yellow Shirts camp back in 2008. "Yellows did it to gain sympathy"

But then:

However, Mr. Sansern Ponjiad, the secretary-general of the NACC, told reporters he believed the bomb was intended to intimidate the anti-corruption commissioners.

Mr. Sansern said unknown assailants have previously planted explosives by the wall of the NACC office.

I have no reason to condemn the police's initiate investigative result. The police officer did not make any accusation or speculation - you did. The SG of NACC did - intimidating the commissioners of NACC, though not sure which group he was pointing the finger.

You have to understand the yellows are angels sent from above and would never even utter a naughty word. The police are shooting and throwing grenades at themselves, The reds are attacking themselves and the yellows. These poor yellows are doing nothing more than sitting around holding hands and singing Kumbaya.

Of course, of course, don't worry, your reputation here is still intact.

BTW read my post again. I didn't make any accusation or speculation. I just pointed out that you condemned the NACC SecGen for 'speculating' but forgot to condemn the police also doing some 'speculating'.

Did not go off and was found.. now I act like all the red shirt acted before..

It was a plant to get support definately

Now what I really think:

I dont care who put it there but the violence should stop it was peaceful before tempers rose and the police tried to retake Bangkok.

Protesting.. YES bombs NO

in TH this is the schema: Protesting = Bombs. (sadly)

Look to the facts, the bomb was not thrown, but hidden, and where?? at the NACC office, where the reds were obstructing, even the police, who are mainly red, suggest the bomb was placed to intimidate the NACC members.

Just uncork another bottle with your friend Chalerm and Cheers clap2.gif1zgarz5.gif

Blast radius of 200 metres according to thaksins army? That's a pretty big bomb. Any photo of this bomb? Any idea what chemicals where used to make it? Or are we relying on unsubstantiated claims from thaksins army? The photo of 3 men kneeling down in front of something is really swell though, but none of the bomb? The fire extinguisher is a great photos too, but no huge bomb. thaksins army should have gone for full effect and said a blast radius of 600 metres and it was a dirty bomb that released devil birds that only attack red shirts. Too unbelievable? Well they would have us believe the rice scheme is not corrupt. I believe in devil birds before I believe in an uncorrupt rice scheme.

I don't doubt it was planted by the PDRC though because the PDRC don't like the red shirts. It is COMMON SENSE that dictates that the PDRC would like to blow up the terrorist wing of the PTP. I am not an idiot that thinks they will plant a bomb to blow themselves up, but 200 metres?

WOW.

This was put there by the reds own people.

Good one. The Kikoman conspiracy can be applied, all we have to do is change the party, and the shoe fits!! If he can use it, so can we.

Actually, in all honesty, this group is notorious for playing martyr and doing such things for political gain- they're not smart enough to think of it, but as the voting banners noted, their dictator thinks for them (2010 deaths/ assassination of seh daeng as intended by the liege lord etc.)

1. I do not attack a reputation. I even tell no reputation is at stake!

2. I quote from the OP which has the SecGen of NACC suggesting the bomb might be meant to intimidate them as they already had some bombs found outside the buildings walls. It also has the police speculation. If you re against speculation you should condemn both, if only to be consistent.

3. I won't put you on a 'rubbish list', although I wouldn't be surprised if Santa had you already on his Naughty List. I think your posts are worthy of a reply if only to correct the minor part which needs it, mostly not more that 99.99%

With any respect if possibly due,

Despite what one sees and what one is intended to see, despite what one believes or is intended to believe - one thing is absolutely certain - the UDD's efforts to block the NACC as well as call for the eradication of the independent agencies is the greatest threat this country has ever faced. To have a society without legal checks and balances and the process of law may be the UDD utopia for Thaksin and despot billionaires, but it is treacherous for everyone else. The only path out of this chaos is through the constitution. The UDD and Thaksin may have a vested interest in not making that so, but to all those who are sworn to uphold the constitution, it holds the key to a free society. Yingluck has a sworn obligation to protect the constitution. She has a sworn obligation to respect the institution. She has therefore a constitutional obligation to tell the UDD not to campaign on the eradication of the independent agencies. Not to do so would be a betrayal of her sworn responsibilities.

Yes, photo insert in post #1, a fire extinguisher, the red thing.

'a number of "C4 explosives"'??? Sticks? C4 is like Plasticine, I do not think it comes in sticks.

That would make a big bang with a lot of shrapnel, no mention of the detonator or triggering device?

One thing for sure, there are some very nasty people around.

are you thick? the fire extinguisher IS THE BOMB. The chemical composition in the bomb is clearly stated in the OP.
