Do you know Ben Bartree?
Some of you may be familiar with the website Zerohedge.com It was originally a finance centred website with useful articles and debates on economic issues, many of the contributors were knowledgeable. Unfortunately it later morphed into a political forum (with a finance leaning) and a lot of the current contributors are nutcases. I still read it because some of the articles are still useful, and it tends to be ahead in the news cycle. One of the regular article writers is a guy named Ben Bartree, and his tagline says he is an American author, based in Bangkok! Is he on this forum? Does anyone here know him? -

Rising Baht Sparks Fears of Another 'Tom Yam Kung' Crisis
True, but once the equilibrium is out of balance and there's much more demand for one currency than transactions from that country, they do have to buy, in extreme situations, which is what we're considering here. -

Trump’s First Day Back: Key Priorities for a Second Term
Au contraire ... with as many foreign and domestic sources wanting to create more disharmony, one of the things I look at as Americans face this election is if the posting is from a newcomer. -

Australian Aged Pension
Also apparently thinks Immigration will send the ATO every movement in and out of Australia of its citizens/residents so they can check residency status. That would be a small job........ -

Is street food good for you? Old rancid oil. Cheap oil. Food dripping with oil.
I've eaten my share, damn tasty stuff, and have never even been ill from it. As I stated earlier, choose wisely. You can make the same poor choices in a restaurant, or even at home, if you're a bit ignorant of those thing, healthy eating & hygiene. Has nothing to do with street food, and all to do with you choices. As all things in life. -

Thai Benefits vs Taxation.
The reason health insurance prices are so high for foreigners is because in the last 15 years or so, hospitals (including government ones) have realized that is another way to rip off foreigners and charge them far more than Thais for the same treatments. That “25%” more value is the minimum. Hopefully nobody will respond with a silly argument like “it’s still cheaper than America” or “it’s only fair since you are a guest in their country.” I get tired of reading that crap. 🙄 But anyway, I think it’s reasonable to say that if there are any new taxes, foreigners will get Absolutely Nothing out of it.- 1

Getting a credit card
Agreed and understandable, but processing fees for domestic debit cards is minimal at %0.55, domestic credit cards %2-2.5, and internation credit cards %2.8-3. Why they insist on charging a whopping %5 extra which is above and beyond their fees is a mystery. (well not really - it's just greed). I just use cash or QR payment with such merchants because there's no way I'm padding their bottom line beyond their fee cost. Really annoying practice that DOES break their merchant agreement (they do say they are not allowed to charge extra to use cards - they just ignore it). https://www.kasikornbank.com/en/business/sme/financial-services/collection-solutions/pages/edc.aspx
