Tough action demanded against Route No 8 buses

BANGKOK: -- The Anti-Global Warming Association has demanded the Transport Ministry to revoke the concession of Route No 8 bus fleet failing that it will take the case to the Administrative Court.

The demand followed an incident on Thursday when the driver of a Route No 8 bus, numbered 36-115, squeezed a private car which was travelling on the right lane until it climbed up the kerb of the footpath. The incident took place on the Paholyothin road in front of Chatuchak park.

Mr Srisuwan Chanya, president of the association, said that the Route No 8 buses had had a bad reputation of reckless driving, lack of concern for the safety of passengers and traffic violations.

He pointed out that the penalty for reckless bus drivers which is five-day suspension is too lenient and insufficient to cause the passengers to feel comfortable and safe riding on public buses driven by reckless drivers.

He accused the Transport Ministry and the Land Transport Department of failing to take proper actions against reckless bus drivers and the bus companies involved despite many road accidents involving public buses.

Srisuwan warned that if the concession of Route 8 bus fleet was not revoked, he would take the case to the Administrative Court.

Only the number 8 line???????

What about all the others?

I have finally given up taking buses after a horrifying ride along Sukhumvit in number 38 bus. I don't know how it started but the driver was racing against another bus. At no point did he vie from the outside lane. When he "stopped" (or slowed down) to let passengers on and off it was also in the outside lane causing the passengers to cross two lanes of heavy traffic.

When I got off I was nearly hit by a motorcycle that swung out from behind the bus at the last second.

Because when it comes down to it, no one else gives a globally warmed sh!t.

Hilarious.

I have been n number 8s when I lived in Phahonyotin, they are no different than any of the other buses.

But they didn't go viral....yet. That's beauty of the interweb. Decades long problems finally see the light of day...

.....5 days off for intentionally running a car off the road.....with passengers in both vehicles....???

I might be a cynic but I can't help wondering if all this concern for the incident might somehow be down to who the un-named driver of the private car knows.

Yeah, true Thai behavior being documented and shown to the World.... and the Thais being publically shamed.

Possibly the only thing that will change their ways and might possibly save Thailand in the future.

Glad to see it. It's a start and regardless of the circumstances, a most welcomed article.
