Good Quality, but Not Too Expensive, Hotel In Hang Dong Area

Featured Replies

Hi,

Got a friend arriving in a few days and would be very grateful for suggestions for a nice, but not overly pricey, Hotel somewhere in the Hang Dong area??

This is Hang Dong district. (dark red dotted line).

It is huge.

You need to be more specific.

And to be honest the only nice hotels in the Hang Dong area are some of the resorts on the Samoeng road. Other than that you're looking at town, which may be a far better location anyway for a visitor.

Or, Plan B, check on AirBnB.com if there is something available in the Hang Dong in a sensible area.

Well, thanks Winnie--you are the only reply so far and, from what you are saying it's Samoeng Road or the city--I wasn't aware it was such a short list. What about the Resort in Sanpakwan--Assaradevi--good place?

My friends don't want to be too far from our house so communication is easy, for the short time they are here.

Don't know it.. In general though, unless you live right next door (walking distance), there isn't too much benefit of being there as opposed to being in town. You will still be getting into a car to meet them, the only difference is driving 5 minutes instead of 15 minutes. So on a typical day you save 10 minutes of y'all lives by being there.

And looking at teh location, your drive may actually be similar to driving into town depending on where you live; it's really way out: https://goo.gl/maps/2x0j0 I also live in Hang Dong, and for me to drive to the Assara Devi is the exact same distance as driving into town. (May be better for you of course.)

Anyway the downside of course is that they will be completely stuck there for the times you are not with them; they can't walk out in the morning and actually see something, like they would be able when staying downtown. It gives guests a much better impression of Chiang Mai too of course.

Another option is somewhere on the Hang Dong side of the city--any ideas?

For this reason I always let guests stay in town (or at my house), and I also live in Hang Dong. It gives guests a much better impression of Chiang Mai too fo course.

Thanks for taking the time to advise--and such good sense--true a short drive and I can be at their place--plus they get the option of walking around the city when bored with 'seeing us'.

Still after suggestions, though--as I don't often get called on to do the hotel picking.

Well, there is this one: http://www.agoda.com/san-pareni-hotel/hotel/chiang-mai-th.html

In between Big C and the Mae Hia market area, right on the Middle Ring.

If the goal is to get the most un-Chiang Mai like surroundings possible, then this is a great choice. wink.png (Not only is it straight on a big modern highway with Big C the only place you can walk to, it also boasts architecture like this:

Yeah--I see what you mean--it must be affiliated to the place with the Windmills--it's frontage looks like the little bottles of Dutch Liqeur you used to get 'gratis' on KLM long haul.

Does fit the bill geographically, though, and not too far from Mae Hia Market for grub.

A walk to the main road for a Songtaew.

Possible candidate--just for the Kitsch architecture.

Thanks CMSally--I see it's out past PanyaDen School--just a little too far out [ No Pun!]

Panic over--they saw the links to Hotel San Pareni that WTK had posted and went for that--my problem over.

Thanks to both of you who helped with suggestions.

Going south on hwy 108 just before the post office, right across fro the PTT gas station is a road with a klong in the middle.

Go up this rd about 1 km and hotel on left. Seems like it is 4 or 5 stories tall. I stayed there once when doing work on the

house and had no power for several days. Clean, nothing fancy, a/c, hot water. Maybe 400 baht 3 yr ago.
